2825 17 Mile Rd Unit C , Kent City, Michigan, United States | Multi-Material Recycling

Surplus Coatings provides a full service recycling process that makes it easy for companies to GO GREEN. We have over 20 years experience in the powder coating industry and have recycled millions of pounds of unwanted powder coatings.

Surplus Coatings was founded in 1994 as a recycler of off specification and manufacturers overruns of powder coating. In 1995 the founders of Surplus Coatings recruited Dwayne Behrens as CEO. Under the guidance of Behrens, before recycling was popular, Surplus Coatings began developing innovative uses for the material. As CEO, Behrens used his international trade and sales experience to expand avenues of business beyond the United States. In 2001 Surplus Coatings was purchased by Dwayne Behrens as a division of Coatings by PCD, Inc. Under the new ownership, the company continues to expand its approach of recycling and develops new ways to recycle powder coatings. The company headquarters is located in Kent City, Michigan.  Our teams recycling expertise and years of success come from a simple concept of connecting the dots. With a balanced approach of changing times, recognizing patterns, and understanding chemical makeup we are able to find long lasting economical recycling solutions. Our responsibility to our clients is to merger the right combination of analysis from our numerous analytic tools, and generate actionable insights that deliver impact-full environmental results. A recycling partnership with us will allow your unwanted powder to become a raw material for use in multiple industries.

Surplus Coatings recycles all forms of powder coatings; spray to waste, reclaimed, excess, off-spec, expired, or unwanted powder coatings. Examining and isolating the raw materials is the first step that makes it possible to recycle powder coating that would otherwise end up in a landfill.   All powder coating received by Surplus Coatings is processed first by analysis and segregation. Analysis of powder coatings categorizes the value of the powder and determines its recycling journey. Once the category is determined the powder is segregated so that it may be recycled within the most efficient and least expensive manor. The segregated material is then either re-manufactured, blended or mixed into a proprietary formula to be used in a plethora of new products.
