ProTek Recycling, Inc
274 2nd Street Troy, New York, United States | Waste recycling
ProTek Recycling Inc. was founded in 2012 by engineering graduates from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with the goal of developing a process for recycling all types of electronicsfrom the ground-up. And most importantly, a process that could be sustainable while still being cost-effective.
We believe very strongly that the decision to properly recycle electronics shouldn’t be limited by cost. With this in mind, we strive to maintain minimal to zero-cost recycling and pickups for our clients. All our services are also designed to be simple and efficient allowing our customers to focus on their core business without having to worry about the logistics of their waste stream.
In addition we have years of experience in the industry and, with over 400 clients served in the Manhattan area, we understand the unique recycling challenges experienced by NYC based businesses.
We have experience working with companies and organizations of all different industries and sizes and in each case we work with the company to develop a custom solution for their needs.
ProTek Recycling is a New York State registered electronic waste collection and recycling firm (DEC # 00838). We also select our downstream vendors with great care, ensuring that any end-of-life material that could potentially be hazardous is given only to R2 or eStewards certified companies. In addition we also have a strict zero-landfill policy for any electronic material and even have recycling programs for non-electronic materials such as cardboard and plastics.
ProTek Recycling also has strong connections with some of the early pioneers in the computing industry and as a result has long maintained a museum of notable classic systems and computing firsts. In 2014 we expanded to start providing these machines as well as all other types of electronics for rentals in film, photo, and stage productions; helping to preserve computing industry by introducing it to a new generation through popular media.
If you have any questions, please let us know. We would be happy to discuss your individual corporate needs to develop a custom solution for all your electronic waste recycling needs.
Electronics Recycling
Businesses can count on a local company, ProTek Recycling, for all of their electronics recycling needs. With the rapid pace technological innovation, the impact of electronic waste has become a global issue. The cost of removal and processing for old technology (such as laptops and desktops), as well as the potential for environmental damage from such waste, compounds the problem. The EPA estimates that 2.37 million tons of electronics reached end-of-life in 2009 alone. However, just 25% of this weight was collected for recycling, and many states have adopted legislation to divert electronics towards reclamation programs, but it is up to the consumer and industry to stay in compliance with these new laws.
We're an Affordable Solution
Since 2012, we have been taking care of many different businesses with electronic recycling needs. The reason we’ve been such a great choice is that we believe very strongly that cost should never be a deciding factor in properly disposing of electronic material and we are committed to being a part of the solution. We’re confident in our process and will gladly work with any business or organization to develop a solution.
We Respect Your Privacy
At ProTek Recycling, we are strongly committed to protecting the data of our clients. eWaste Days
Electronic waste recycling days are 1-day events that can be hosted by a variety of different organizations for community outreach or service. They provide the local community with a safe method of recycling unwanted or outdated electronics.
ProTek Recycling has helped out with over 200 of these events which in some cases collect 80,000lbs of electronics or more; all of which is diverted from the existing waste stream and properly recycled. With our experience, even the largest events can run smoothly and efficiently and at minimal to no cost for the host organization.
The Mechanics of an Event
Basics: Events are typically hosted on a Spring or Fall Saturday from 9am to 2pm. Signage indicates where cars with electronics should go to be unloaded. ProTek staff and volunteers unload the cars and all equipment is directly loaded onto ProTek trucks.
No electronics are stored on-site for any amount of time and after the event nothing is left over and the asphalt surface is kept clean and free from any damage.
Location: The events are typically held in the parking lots of the host organization, ideally near town centers or well-traveled roads. ProTek will not need to use the facilities of the host organization in any way.
Staffing: Volunteers to help at the event are welcome and encouraged. Ample volunteers tend to make the event run more smoothly and are important for roles such as traffic control and car unloading. ProTek will have employees on site, but only ProTek employees can pack the trucks for liability reasons.
Host Organizations: Anyone can host an event and we’ve worked with a variety of different groups including towns, counties, cities, youth groups, athletic clubs, schools, local businesses, and large corporations.
After the Event: All equipment collected is then properly recycled with the highest care so that nothing ends up in landfills or in the environment. To protect the personal information of people participating in the event we also erase or destroy all equipment containing saved data such as hard drives and cell phones.
If you’re interested in hosting an event and would like to know more, please contact us! We’d be happy to answer any and all questions or provide advice on how to organize and advertise such an event.
