Solomon Corporation was founded by Gene Hemmer in 1971 as a small transformer repair shop. Over the decades, the company has grown to become a full-service transformer rebuild and maintenance facility that also specialized in sales and service of distribution transformers, voltage regulators, oil circuit reclosers and switches, as well as transformer parts and components. In 2000, Gene's five children – Joe Hemmer, Phil Hemmer, Tom Hemmer, Katie Platten, and Matt Hemmer – purchased the family business from their father. Armed with Gene's entrepreneurial spirit and a commitment to innovation, the second generation of the Hemmer family added a state-of-the-art commercial storage facility, a paint shop, and new locations in Texas and Colorado.
Today, Solomon Corporation is the largest rebuilder of oil-filled transformers in the nation. GFI Energy, a division of Oaktree Capital Management, specializes in helping companies like Solomon Corporation, who provide services to the electric utility industry. The management team of Solomon Corporation is still led by members of the Hemmer family and the family remains significant shareholders.
