Raw Materials Company Inc.

17 Invertose Drive , Port Colborne,, Ontario, Canada | Battery Recycling

Raw Materials Company (RMC) was established in 1985 based on a belief and vision that all consumer batteries need to be managed responsibly and not discarded into municipal landfills, regardless of type. Our focus has always been to find solutions that are not only economical, but also solutions that are considered socially and environmentally sustainable. Our technology is forever evolving as we push ourselves to stay on pace with advances in battery manufacturing. In a world of inefficient processing methods, RMC is very proud to have engineered a battery recycling process that recycles and reuses all of the components of an alkaline battery in a sustainable manner.Working alongside local Stewardship and Producer Responsibility programs, RMC has managed to increase Ontario's Battery Collections and Recycling Rate to the highest rate in North America. All recycled materials are reused in industry, preventing the need for further mining and depletion of our finite natural resources. This creates jobs at RMC and employment opportunities with the companies that consume our materials. With society's growing dependence on all things electronic, the issue of responsible stewardship of spent batteries will only become more prevalent in the years ahead. At Raw Materials Company, we are committed to providing the world with the most efficient and sustainable battery recycling solution for consumer batteries.

Our Mission :Raw Materials Company is an international leader in the field of waste and resource recycling. The company was formed to reflect our commitment to a safer environment through the proper recycling and conversion of waste material. As pioneers in the field of energy conservation and resource preservation, we are proud of our contribution to a cleaner global environment. This commitment extends to ensuring the highest possible health and safety standards for the protection of our employees and the public at large.Specializing in Battery Recycling, our process for single-use alkaline batteries reclaims 100% of each battery for reuse & up to 92% is upcycled.Raw Materials Company Inc. (RMC) is an international leader in the field of battery recycling. Through the use of our patented technology, RMC currently recycles more alkaline batteries then any company in North America, and now has the capacity to recycle every alkaline battery sold into the Canadian marketplace on an annual basis. This development eliminates the need for Canadians to ever send spent alkaline batteries to a landfill, a practice which is widely considered harmful to our environment. Although mixed consumer/household batteries comprise a small fraction of the total trash in municipal landfills, they are responsible for over 80% of all the heavy metals found in landfills. Over time, these materials can leach into our soil and ground water, polluting our land and water supply. RMC’s alkaline technology enables the recovery and reuse of all materials contained in an alkaline battery including zinc, manganese, steel and potassium. These materials account for 86% of an alkaline battery. When waste to energy conversion is factored into recycling rate RMC recycling efficiency reaches 100%. All recovered recycled materials are consumed within Canada and the United States within 500 miles of our facility. No waste is sent to landfill and no materials are sold or exported overseas. To date RMC has recycled over 100 Million Pounds of spent batteries, and remains committed to including spent household batteries as a part of Ontario’s Blue Box Program, to ensure the destructive practice of land filling a recyclable stream of dangerous wastes and heavy metals is brought to an end. Batteries could be collected conveniently and cost effectively through the blue box program from a majority of the households in North America. In addition to alkaline batteries, RMC has been recycling Electronic wastes, Spent light tubes, Lead Acid Batteries, Lithium Cells, Lithium Ion Cells, Nickel Cadmium Batteries, Catalytic Convertors, and countless other waste streams for over 20 years.

The company was formed to reflect our commitment to more sustainable and environmentally friendly waste management solutions within Canada and through-out the world. RMC has maintained its ISO 14001 status since the year 2000, and operates under a hazardous waste processing permit issued by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, as well as permits issued by Environment Canada and the United States Environmental Protection Agency.Raw Materials Company Inc. is an international leader in the field of waste and resource recycling.
