We are privately owned with a heritage dating back to the 1940s and employ almost 3500 people operating at 150 locations around the world.Our presence in America has increased over recent years with organic growth accelerated by strategic acquisitions in key locations.  We have coverage in more than 20 states with almost 2,000 employees spread across these sites.  Our American operations form a crucial part of EMR's international activities.Our core business is the recycling of scrap metal from a range of sources such as End-of-Life vehicles/consumer products, industry, construction and demolition. This results in sales of recycled commodities of around 10 million tons a year. We have extensive ferrous and non-ferrous operations worldwide and produce over 100 grades of high quality recycled materials which are taken to market by our substantial road, rail and shipping network.Supporting our core activities are a range of specialist divisions including industrial clearance, total waste management, ship breaking, servicing local government service providers and cable, copper and aluminum granulation facilities. Also, through our own and our joint venture activities we are working towards becoming a zero waste company.

We transport by rail and water where we can, which cuts down CO2 emissions and keeps unnecessary traffic movements off our road. We have a vast fleet of dedicated vehicles, to provide our suppliers with a reliable collection service. We also have heavy lift capabilities to handle all shapes and sizes of material and mobile balers and shears for downsizing material, so that we make fewer trips.In addition we have thousands of purpose built containers and can station whatever you need at your site, including lockable containers and boxes which we can provide with unique seals for added security. If you are buying from us, we can deliver worldwide to suit your timescales, by rail, container or vessel, from small barges and coasters to any Panamax sized vessel. We have dedicated deep and short sea berths with stevedoring services and our in-house international shipping office will ensure that you have all the relevant documentation in place.At EMR we realize the importance of recycling; our resources won’t last forever and landfilling is unsustainable. The cost of waste disposal is rising and recycling rates are becoming increasingly challenging. Our traditional shredding process focuses on extracting metals in high volumes. Once the high volume of metal is recovered, there is a leftover residue which is made up of small metal fragments, plastics, foam, glass, aggregates, wood, textiles, rubber and water. This residue is commonly sent to landfill as it is considered too expensive or complicated to recover. Not content with 15 million tons of CO2 we save each year through our core metal recycling activities, we are pushing the boundaries to recycle this residue. By working with world class technology companies we should soon be able to increase recycling rates to 99% and produce significantly more “green energy” from our operations than we actually use, putting EMR at the forefront of metal recycling and making us the one of the world’s most sustainable material recycling companies.
