BioCNG, LLC
8413 Excelsior Drive , Suite 160 , Madison , Wisconsin, United States | Energy
BioCNG, LLC is the co-inventor of the patent-pending BioCNG™ biogas conditioning system, which economically produces biogas-based fuel for compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles.
The innovative system is operating successfully, running several small fleets on CNG produced from landfill gas, wastewater treatment plant digesters, and anaerobic food waste digester biogas – and at a fraction of the cost of gasoline!
While the standard BioCNG™ unit sizes use 50, 100 and 200 scfm, systems can process 20 to 2000 scfm of biogas to produce 100 to 10,000 gasoline gallon equivalents (GGE) of BioCNG per day. The fuel can be used directly or mixed with natural gas to produce a blended vehicle fuel. The modular BioCNG system can easily be expanded to respond to increased gas production.
After cleaning and conditioning, BioCNG™ fuel meets SAE J 1616 and engine manufacturers’ fuel specifications and can be used without modification in the same engines as natural gas-CNG.
ECONOMICAL AND AFFORDABLE
- BioCNG system operation and maintenance (production) costs are about 25 percent of the price of conventional gasoline or diesel.
- Federal renewable fuel credits (RINS) are available for biogas-based CNG from landfills, wastewater treatment plants and manure/organics digesters.
- Additional alternative fuel production grants/tax credits/rebates may be available in your state or at the federal level.
HELP WHEN YOU NEED IT
In addition to designing the plant, BioCNG, LLC can help you through permitting and installation. Our services include:
- Preparing a pro forma financial statement.
- Permitting of a plant at your landfill, waste water treatment plant, anaerobic digester, or other biogas site.
- Construction management of the plant.
- Training, so your personnel can operate the plant safely and efficiently.
CNG Fleet Managers
ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A COST EFFECTIVE AND GREEN FUEL?
Compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel is ideal for fleet managers looking for alternatives to costly gasoline and diesel fuel. Natural gas vehicles (NGVs) are good for our economy, our environment, and your bottom line. Driven by record amounts of industry investment and government incentives, more and more fleets are turning to NGVs, which use clean, inexpensive, and abundant natural gas as a vehicle fuel.
What’s more, the outlook for continued and increased use of natural gas is extremely positive. The U.S. natural gas resource base is the largest in the world and continues to grow, as millions of gallons of natural gas are being produced from previously untouched formations.
JOIN THE PARADE OF FLEETS CHOOSING NATURAL GAS
Nearly one-fifth of all transit buses were run by compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquid natural gas (LNG) in 2011. Currently, transit buses are the largest users of natural gas for vehicles.
The fastest growing NGV segment is waste collection and transfer vehicles. Almost 40 percent of the garbage trucks purchased in 2011 were natural gas-powered. BioCNG™ is ideally suited to fuel garbage trucks because after the drivers unload at the landfill, they can pull up to the BioCNG™ fueling station and fill up with RNG fuel before returning to their assigned routes.
What’s more, at least 35 U.S. airports have natural gas vehicles in their own fleets and/or have policies encouraging their use by private fleets.
WHICH TYPES OF VEHICLE FLEETS MAKE THE MOST SENSE FOR USE OF NATURAL GAS FUEL?
For the most part, high fuel use vehicles with return-to-base operations or repetitive route or pre-set geographic operating areas are the best bets for NGVs. Fleet owners with these types of vehicles should consider use of BioCNG for their vehicle fuel:
- Regional freight trucks
- Transit buses
- Refuse trucks
- Municipal sweepers
- Airport shuttle services
- Taxis
- Textile services
- Household goods
- School buses
- Courier sedan
- Newspaper vans
- Utility/ telecom vans
- Public works pick-ups
How about you?
CONSIDER THESE FACTS ABOUT NATURAL GAS VEHICLES:
- There are about 120,000 NGVs on U.S. roads today and more than 15.2 million worldwide.
- There are about 1,000 NGV fueling stations in the U.S., about half of which are open to the public.
- There are also “home refueling appliances” available.
- About 50 U.S manufacturers produce 100 models of light-, medium-, and heavy-duty vehicles and engines.
- Natural gas currently costs from $1.50–$2.00 less per gasoline gallon equivalent (GGE).
- In the U.S. alone, NGVs offset the use of nearly 360 million gallons of gasoline in 2011.
- NGVs meet the strictest emission standards, including California’s AT-PZEV standard.
- NGVs are as safe as or safer than traditional gasoline or diesel vehicles.
BioCNG System Overview
SIMPLE AND EFFECTIVE TECHNOLOGY FOR CLEANING AND CONDITIONING GAS AS A VEHICLE FUEL
The BioCNG™ system offers a simple and effective technology for producing CNG vehicle fuel. Biogas is piped to the patent pending BioCNG™ System from a landfill or anaerobic digester. Then hydrogen sulfide, moisture, siloxanes, volatile organic compounds and carbon dioxide are removed. Product gas is piped to a vehicle fueling system for use as fuel in CNG vehicles.
