Announcing a new patented leading edge technology for Decontamination of Water and Soil; using Humic Substances for a more effective and cost-efficient solution. The application utilizies Permeable Reactive Barrier (PRB) that is installed by injection (not by excavation) to facilitate subsurface interception, retention, and treatment of groundwater contaminants released by industrial and agricultural sources.

Once installed, this system operates passively, without active pumping, to decontaminate water flowing (aquifer, pollutant plume) from contaminated soil and subsurface pollutant sources without producing any kind of additional contaminates. It replaces the expensive techniques, such as the “pump and treat” method for water treatment and plume capture, which further disturbs the surrounding environment.

This innovative method provides for the in-situ installation of humic barrier that can be used as passive remediation system to treat both organic compounds and metal ions either singly or in combination. In addition, this method can be used to treat viral/bacterial pathogens (example- fecal or E. coli contamination).

The PRB Environmental Group staff includes multiple certified  (Ph.D. and Dr.Sc.) engineers and scientists with over 90 years combined backgrounds in Hydraulics (Civil Engineering), Soil Analysis, Water Quality, Water and Waste Treatment, Groundwater Flow and Contaminant Transport Modeling, Groundwater Remediation,  Analytical Chemistry, and Environmental Compliance.

We are a full service collaborative organization with qualified staff members in site analysis, site development, permitting/zoning and variances, surveying, feasibility studies, utility design, stormwater management, storm drainage studies and improvements, sedimentation and erosion control design and compliance, environmental permitting, phase I and phase II environmental studies.

Our Ultimate Goal is to build a long-lasting relationship by ensuring customer satisfaction, applying leading edge technology, sound engineering practices, and cost savings to our clients.

Humic substances can be described as naturally processed left overs (or litter) of plant and animal remnants which are stable to further degradation.

The unique biological features of humic substances is their high biocompatibility. The lack of toxicity, immunomodulating activity which stimulates stress resistance and growth in plants, as well as recalcitrance to biodegradation. Those features make humics extremely friendly to plants increasing crops and protecting from diseases. Of particular importance is that these are humics that retain water in soils, structuring it and deliver nutritional elements to plants. As such, humics serves as cornerstone of soil fertility.

The given friendly nature of humics is reflection of their chemical structure presented by a mixture of naturally oxidized organic molecules of mostly acidic nature. The presence of numerous oxygen containing groups and extended carbon skeleton provide for high surface activity of humics. The latter enables interactions with biological membranes and brings about the beneficial biological effects mentioned above. In addition, polyfunctional nature of humics provide for their ability to bind metals and hydrophobic compounds into stable and non-toxic complexes. This allows for their definition as natural detoxicants: this is because due to high molecular weights of humic macroligands, their complexes with contaminants become not bioavailable for plants.

The beneficial properties of humics can be enhanced through knowledge-based design of humicbased molecules.

Those 'designer-humics' can possess properties which are not inherent within the natural HS expanding even more the field of possible applications of humics.

Building a better Permeable Reactive Barrier, a non-invasive method of application, reducing expenses.
