Indoor Biotechnologies was founded by Dr. Martin D. Chapman, formerly Professor of Medicine and Microbiology at the University of Virginia and a member of the UVA Asthma and Allergic Diseases Center. Dr. Chapman is a Fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and has served as a consultant to the U.S. National Institutes of Health, the Environmental Protection Agency, academic institutions and Fortune 500 companies.

Indoor Biotechnologies' core technology is a comprehensive, proprietary portfolio of antibodies for the detection of house dust mite, cat, dog, cockroach, mold, pollen and food allergens. These antibodies are key components in assay platforms including ELISA kits and MARIA® technology for allergen detection. MARIA® is state-of-the-art multiplex testing for environmental allergens. Indoor Biotechnologies laboratories in Charlottesville and in Cardiff are ISO 17025 compliant and provide a comprehensive range of environmental testing services.
Indoor Biotechnologies manufactures purified natural and recombinant allergens for research and for development of allergy diagnostics and vaccines. This product line currently includes fifty purified allergens that are manufactured to a high degree of purity and biologic activity. This includes LoTox™ allergens with low endotoxin content that are designed for immunologic studies of allergy and asthma.
Our Clients
Indoor Biotechnologies clients include leading allergists, immunologists, academic and government researchers in the US, Europe, Asia, South America and Australasia. Our ELISA and MARIA® kits have been used for assessing allergen exposure in epidemiologic studies of asthma carried out by the U.S. National Institutes of Health; the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; the Department of Housing and Urban Development; and the Food and Drug Administration. In Europe, Indoor Biotechnologies products have been used in the European Union CREATE project on allergen standardization, in the European Community Respiratory Health Survey and in several large birth cohort studies at academic medical centers and universities.
Indoor Biotechnologies commercial clients include pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, allergen manufacturers, household cleaning products companies, indoor air quality and environmental companies, and industrial hygienists. In the U.S., the vast majority of indoor air quality companies that test for allergens use Indoor Biotechnologies ELISA kits for allergen exposure assessment.
