OCI Solar Power

300 Convent St. , Suite 1900, San Antonio, Texas, United States | Energy

OCI Solar Power develops, owns and operates solar photovoltaic power plants throughout the U.S. Currently, we are developing 500 MW of solar photovoltaic projects nationwide. Headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, OCI Solar Power strives to build sources of green power generation, create jobs and increase U.S. energy independence.

Develop, Own, and Operate Utility-Scale Solar PV Projects

The OCI Solar Power team has decades of experience developing, owning, and operating power plants, and we apply this knowledge to effectively develop projects using solar PV technology.  As a developer, owner, and operator of utility-scale solar PV power plants, we focus on projects ranging in size from 2 MW to large-scale utility size projects over 100 MW. Because OCI Solar Power is flexible with project size, our solar PV projects can be strategically located on the power grid, developed in a timely manner, and best aligned with the needs of communities and utilities.

Deep Energy Industry Experience

Throughout the past 20 years, the OCI Solar Power leadership team has developed, owned, and operated thousands of megawatts of power plants in the U.S. and Internationally.

Community Partnership

We create a partnership with local communities as we work together to build solar PV projects, which generate green energy, employment, and U.S. energy independence. As part of our Economic Development Agreement with the City of San Antonio, we have committed to create over 800 permanent jobs to support our large-scale solar PV project under contract with CPS Energy.

Creative Technology and Financial Solutions

We have an extensive network of technology partners and capital providers. We work with our engineers to select the best technology design for each project, given the project’s location, the local conditions, and the requirements from the community and utility. Each solar PV project requires a significant capital investment. Given our past decades of experience building power plants, we also have an extensive network of financial providers that we successfully leverage to raise the capital required to get our projects on the ground.

Solar power is a preferred choice for many communities seeking to build green sources of power generation, create jobs, and increase energy independence.

OCI Solar Power is willing to work with local governments, utilities, and Economic Development teams to discuss the best approach for moving forward with solar power development.

Advantages of locally produced solar power

Solar power provides power during peak hours when electricity demand is highest. Local solar power defers or eliminates the need to build other types of power plants or new transmission lines in the area. Solar power technology is proven and tested.

Solar is potentially the “greenest” of all renewable power

Solar technology does not produce emissions, and produces power during peak demand hours, whereas wind produces a large portion of its power at night when not as much electricity is consumed. In addition, the environmental impact on wildlife is minimal compared to wind or hydro that have the potential to harm wildlife during the normal migratory or daily movements of the wildlife.

How a solar PV plant produces electricity

Solar PV (photovoltaic) power plants enable solar cells to convert sunlight into electric current. Specifically, solar cells are packaged together into a module or panel that releases electrons when hit with rays of photons from sunlight. This release of electrons is harnessed by solar panels to produce a large electric current, which is electricity.

Getting electricity onto the power grid

The electricity produced by a PV solar plant is a constant stream of current, or “direct current” (DC). This is similar to the type of current produced by a typical AA battery. Once the power is collected from the solar panels, it is run through inverters that convert the direct current electricity into alternating current (AC) electricity, which is the preferred type because its voltage can be altered making it ideal for long-distance transmission.

Community involvement

We are glad to meet with a community’s Planning Board or Economic Development team to talk about appropriate steps for developing a solar power plant. Some initial considerations are suitable land, community support and appropriate zoning ordinances.
