Metal Theft Prevention at Our Site
Since the company’s founding, Downtown Metals & Recycling’s Management is committed to preventing metal theft. In addition to following all of the local and state laws and ordinances, our company trains employees to identify and deny the purchase of stolen materials. Certain scrap materials, such as city property, and suspicious loads are immediately “tagged” and questioned. If any of our scale masters has a concern about any suspicious load, material, or if a person is acting suspiciously regarding potentially stolen material, it is our policy to reject the material and contact the authorities.

Help Stop Metal Theft By Following The “P.R.E.V.E.N.T” System.

Your part in the P.R.E.V.E.N.T system.

• Protect- your property from potential thefts, keep all material stored or covered from clear view. Install Alarms, lights and surveillance systems around your home/work place.
• Report- all suspicious activity around your neighborhood to local authorities, as soon as possible this will shorten the time thieves have to complete their crimes.
• Educate- yourself and others on the prevention and the potential dangers associated with metal thefts.

• Verify-Information on every transaction with vehicle plates, full person identification, and full material documentation including description and photo.
• Enforce- All state and local laws and ordinances on scrap metal purchasing and processing.
• Negate- All suspicious material from purchase.
• Transmit- All fulfilled transaction information to local police agency.  

It's important for both the public and law enforcement to be suspicious of people hanging around potential metal targets. We can achieve effective results only through cooperation between recyclers, law enforcement, and the affected parties. If you are a victim of metal theft, notify your local police department as quickly as possible. If recyclers get notified with detailed description of stolen material we're more likely to identify it as stolen. The use of microdots, embossing, etching and other identifying markings can alert a recycler to help recover stolen material.
