Electric Power Utilities: Subsector Focus
Coal Combustion Residuals and Byproducts
Coal has successfully powered electricity generation for more than 100 years. But during the past few decades increasing regulations pertaining to air, water, and the handling, storage, treatment, and disposal of coal combustion residuals (CCR) has greatly impacted operations at coal-fired facilities. Geosyntec consults with clients to achieve their goals for new and expanded ash and residuals storage facilities, closure and reuse of existing storage facilities, and the management of leachate, unplanned releases, and groundwater impacts related to coal combustion activities.
Electric Power Utilities: Subsector Focus
Air Quality Services
Geosyntec’s air practitioners provide the full spectrum of air quality services to the electric power industry. These services include permitting; compliance assurance; emissions monitoring; and air pollution control equipment evaluation and optimization. Our practitioners have expertise in New Source Review pre-construction permitting and air dispersion modeling as well as the application of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) air measurement methods (e.g., Standards of Performance for New Stationary Sources, or 40 CFR Part 60) within the electric power industry.
Electric Power Utilities: Subsector Focus
Water and Wastewater Services
Water is a vital component of all fossil-fueled electricity generation. Cooling water, process water, wastewater, stormwater, and groundwater must all be considered for optimal generation efficiencies. For all aspects of water management at an electric generating facility, Geosyntec’s regulatory understanding, technical excellence, and diverse experience integrating innovative science and engineering approaches facilitates solutions that encompass whole process issues for our clients that help to minimize compliance costs and maintain operational flexibility.
