The Oneida County Landfill wants to remind you to help Save Our Planet!Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle!  The following list below is the Oneida County Landfill Recycling Rules.  If you have any questions please call us at 282-4944. Composting is the natural decomposition of organic matter. Over one half of your household garbage is organic! Composting's end product whether using food, leaves, vegetable matter or soft paper is humus, the substance that gives topsoil its dark color. Examples of compostable materials : leaves, straw, pine needles (Small amounts), grass clippings, garden vegetables, old bakery, coffee grounds, food materials, and 'soft' paper (tissue, napkins, and paper towels).Second Story is a building materials reuse project funded by the Oneida County Solid Waste Department. This project will salvage used building materials, hardware, and other items.Second Story's purpose is to divert items from being landfilled. Reuse (repurposing) of items is preferable to recycling, but for items that cannot be reused, the Second Story project will also be seeking markets to recycle used building materials.
