Cedar Grove Composting

17825 Cedar Grove Road S.E. , Maple Valley, , Washington, United States | Compost & Food Waste

Cedar Grove plays an important role in diverting organic waste from landfills. From two local facilities, we compost over 350,000 tons of residential and commercial yard and food waste annually. If Cedar Grove had not invested in this technology for our local community, all that organic waste would disposed of as trash and shipped to landfills. Instead, Cedar Grove transforms it into nutrient-rich compost-based products. We harness the vitality of organic waste by recycling it into innovative products. In doing so, we energize cities, businesses and citizens to be a force for good by coming full circle with their organic waste. Our Actions:We’ve helped to increase urban recycling in the greater Seattle area. We’re decreasing the amount organic waste that goes into landfills. We’re developing ways to generate renewable energy from organic waste. The products we make improve air, soil and water quality. In 1988, the City of Seattle came to us and asked for our help in recycling the organic yard waste collected curbside. We jumped at the opportunity. Having been in the waste management and recycling business since 1938, we knew it was the last frontier of recycling. We felt a sense of obligation to our city, our business, and of course, the environment. We believe in investing in the best technologies available—in the world. We search far and wide for state-of-the-art equipment that produces measurable results, and our diligence continues to pay off.We utilize GORE® Cover and the OdoWatch™ system. These technologies help us continue to lead the way in waste recycling, odor management and the creation of renewable products.

Cedar Grove Compost contains significant amounts of nutrients required for healthy plant growth and gradually releases them for steady plant growth. This slow release action reduces the need for frequent fertilizer applications and prevents runoff of nutrients into surface water.Cedar Grove makes a high quality, consistent compost through a highly controlled scientific process using aeration, temperature control, curing and screening systems that have been improved and time tested through the production of almost 2 million yards of product since 1989.
