We can quote you a delivered price or you can pick up the product yourself.We can arrange delivery by rail from our Louisville sales yard to any customer served by rail and bill you for the freight.From our Milton/Carrollton plant, we can arrange for delivery by barge to any customer in the Ohio River Valley that has a barge unloading dock and bill you for the freight.The Nugent family began mining sand for commercial use in 1896 as W.F. Nugent & Bros. and incorporated in 1908 as Nugent Sand Company. Nugent Sand Company continues to be majority owned and operated by the third generation of Nugents and by two German partners, Bernhard Oppermann and Herman Wegener, who have sand, gravel, stone, ready mix concrete and asphalt construction interests in Europe.In the early years, Nugent dug sand and gravel from the Ohio River near downtown Louisville and loaded it into wooden barges which were then towed by steam powered paddle-wheel boats to its docks at 5th Street and 33rd Street. The barges were unloaded with a steam shovel. Deliveries were made by horse-drawn wagons.Nugent moved to its present Louisville location at 1833 River Road in 1963. In 1984 Nugent merged with a competitor owned by German investors, the E.T. Slider Company. In 1987, Nugent purchased Martin Marietta's First Street Yard in Louisville and its Milton/Carrollton plant, doubling its sales volume. In 1990, Nugent purchased Billy Holloway Aggregates, in 1992 Milton Sand and Gravel, in 1994, Spray Sand and gravel in Columbus, Indiana. In 2001, Nugent opened a dock and sales yard at Utica, Indiana. In 2002, Nugent opened a 580-acre sand and gravel plant in Warsaw, Kentucky. In 2005, Nugent began shipping sand by rail from its Louisville yard to a distribution yard in Lexington, Kentucky.

Today, Nugent Sand Company is one of the largest producers of construction aggregates in the Ohio River Valley. Nugent distributes sand and gravel by barge from its land based pit at Milton/Carrollton, Kentucky to Cincinnati, Ohio and Huntington and Charleston, West Virginia. Sand and gravel from the Louisville area is dredged from farms adjacent the Ohio River at Bethlehem Indiana, is processed and loaded into barges and towed to our Louisville, Kentucky and Utica, Indiana sales yards where it is unloaded and distributed by truck in the local Kentuckiana area and south on I-65 and east on I-64. At our Louisville location, sand is also loaded on railcars and shipped to a distribution yard serving the Lexington, Kentucky market area. Our new Warsaw plant serves the northern Kentucky market.
