Professional Kansas Recycling

Plastics Recycling of Kansas (PRo Kansas) was chartered in 2001 as a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation. The successful, ongoing operation of the Miller Recycling Center is the organization’s primary purpose. We are governed by a Board of Directors that meets monthly.PRo Kansas / Miller Recycling Center will accomplish this mission by:Operating and growing the PRo Kansas / Miller Recycling Center,Educating the public through tours, activities, presentations, school programs, mailings, PR campaigns, and other efforts as appropriate.,Involving the public through volunteering and participation in recycling and education programs,Leading Wichita and Sedgwick County to a comprehensive curbside recycling system.Our Center is housed in one of three buildings previously owned by the Kice Manufacturing Company. In 2004, the City of Wichita purchased all three of the Kice buildings to make way for the Central Railroad Corridor project. The two buildings on the east side of the tracks have already been torn down. While our future is never definite, we have grown to live with that uncertainty and remain optimistic that we will stay at our current location for at least another few years.The Center receives funding from three sources:

1. the sale of recyclables
2. grants
3. individual donations

Like all commodities, the price we receive for the things that we collect fluctuates. We are somewhat protected from large price swings because we collect a wide range of plastic, paper, and other products. Most of our plastics are sold through a broker. About half of our paper products are sold directly to mills.Large Capacity BalerIn 2007 we received a $45,000 grant from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment to purchase a high capacity horizontal baler. The new baler allows us to process the increased level of collections without the need to hire an additional employee.Individual donations to PRo Kansas are always appreciated and ARE tax deductible. Over the years we have accepted several donations made “in memory of” an individual.
