Vallejo Community Organizations Recycling (VALCORE), Inc is a coalition of local organizations working together to provide fund-raising opportunities for our Non-Profit Member Groups while providing a recycling service to our community. We are a 501©(3) nonprofit organization.VALCORE’s member groups and employees work at the recycling center, help with school tours or composting classes and attend local events. Two Sheltered Workshops use VALCORE as a job training site for their clients who are developmentally disabled adults.The mission of VALCORE Recycling is to promote recycling, composting and reuse opportunities in our community. This is accomplished at our recycling center and through public education programs including a bi-weekly newspaper column called “A Sorted Affair.VALCORE Recycling is a coalition of nonprofit organizations working together to provide recycling services to our community while providing a fundraising opportunity for local nonprofits. We are a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization.VALCORE is the acronym for Vallejo Community Organizations Recycling. The City of Vallejo's Beautification Advisory Commission established VALCORE in May of 1981. The organization is made up of service, educational, youth, and environmental grass roots organizations as well as interested community individuals. Vallejo Garbage Service provides the location, equipment, and other in-kind services to support the recycling center activities with the support and direction of the City of Vallejo.The mission of VALCORE is to promote recycling and resource recovery in our community. This is accomplished through our recycling center and through public education programs.The public education programs we provide include recycling tours, speakers for club meetings, composting classes, informational displays in public places, recycling information at community events, and a biweekly recycling/environmental newspaper column called 'A Sorted Affair'. VALCORE is the lead organizer for Vallejo's Earth Day event in April and of Vallejo's Coastal Cleanup event in September each year. These services are provided to the community through the combined efforts of VALCORE's nonprofit member groups.Working together as a team, our member groups established Vallejo's first recycling center. In the beginning, we were open one day per week and accepted donations of glass bottles, aluminum cans, and newspapers only. In 1989, we became a California certified buy back center. Today, we are open six days per week. We buy CA Redemption Value (CRV) beverage containers and maintain a donation drop off site for aluminum cans, glass bottles, plastic bottles, newspapers, office paper, junk mail, magazines, catalogues and old books.Today, VALCORE Recycling is managed by nine nonprofit organizations. VALCORE member groups serve on our Board of Directors and work at our site on a rotating schedule. Profits from the sale of all materials recycled at VALCORE are returned to the community through our nonprofit member groups.
We ONLY accept CRV materials, paper, and cardboard for recycling. We also do clothing recycling and paper shredding services.
