About Us

Photon Energy is a successful company specialising in the design, supply, installation and maintenance of solar PV systems..

The company was established in 2006 by Lucy Aitchison, Jonathan Bates, Michael Holmes and Rolf Oldach, and has offices in Reading, Poole, Dartford and Huddersfield.

Photon Energy is one of the UK’s most respected independent installers of micro-generation technologies. As a certified installer under Micro-generation Certification Scheme we have installed over 10MW of renewable energy systems to date (December 2014).

We currently employ over 40 people.

New Build Solar PV Panels

Photon Energy has an excellent track record installing photovoltaic solar panels on new build projects.  We work alongside developers and main contractors, as well as architects and M&E contractors to ensure our solar PV systems are designed to optimise their performance.

Customers benefit by involving us early in their developments as we can advise on the suitability of different technology options and ensure these are designed these effectively into the project.  We can also help in meeting SAP, CSH or other essential planning obligations.

On major construction projects we work as part of the wider design and construction team, in close liaison with roofing and electrical sub-contractors.

We schedule the installation of solar panels to fit your construction programme, and are flexible enough to accommodate the inevitable changes.

All this ensures that we deliver our part of the works efficiently and effectively.

Our customers include

  • Some of the country’s largest main contractors: BAM, Lendlease, Carillion, Interserve, Willmott Dixon Kier Group, Morgan Sindall and Volker Fitzpatrick
  • Major housing developers: Hill Partnerships, Leadbitter Homes, Bovis Homes, Persimmon Homes and Taylor Wimpey
  • M&E contractors
  • Smaller developers and local builders

Site Assessment

For retrofit solar PV installations, we generally undertake a site visit before issuing a firm quote.  At the site survey we confirm the available area for the solar panels, the location of the inverter, and cable runs from the solar panels to the inverter and the distribution board where the system is connected.

We also check for any potential shading of the solar panels from nearby trees and buildings. It only takes a small amount of shading to seriously affect the quantity of electricity a system will generate.

Solar Panels For Agriculture

Demand for installing solar PV panels onto the roofs of existing buildings has exploded since the Feed in Tariff (FiT) was launched in April 2010. The annual UK market has grown from 10MW in 2009 to 1,000MW in 2011, and this level of activity is likely to continue for the next 3 years; installed capacity of solar PV could be as much as 22,000MW by 2020.

The price of solar panels has fallen dramatically over the last 2 years and the Feed-in Tariff has been reduced to reflect the fall in prices. However, the returns are still as good as they were when the scheme was first launched – and solar electricity is now cheaper than grid electricity. And once your solar panels are installed, the price of your solar electricity will not increase.

We have designed and installed solar PV systems for a variety of agricultural buildings such as cold stores, livestock sheds and barns. We have also installed ground mounted solar PV systems. Our Suntricity™ solar PV kits are ideal for smaller buildings and residential properties.
