We are a non‑profit, environmental charity committed to household electronics and computer recycling. We give away refurbished computers to those in need.Since 1994, we have given away thousands of computers to schools, non‑profit organizations and economically and/or physically disadvantaged individuals. Our electronics and computer recycling efforts support our training program, where volunteers learn to reclaim, refurbish, and restore computers for home, school, and office applications. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity – US tax ID# 68-0395504 – and a certified e-waste collector – CEW ID# 100285 – CA Dept of Toxic Substance Control # 4198.CTRC is a non-profit environmental charity with locations in Marin and Alameda Counties. We recycle household electronics and give away free refurbished computers to those in need to help narrow the digital divide. Since 1994 we have given away thousands of computers to schools, non-profit organizations and economically and/or physically disadvantaged individuals. Discarded electronics are reclaimed and refurbished in our training program where volunteers learn to restore computers for home, school, and office applications.Volunteers come to us from all walks of life to receive hands-on experience while building and testing equipment to which they would not ordinarily have access.People who need to fulfill Community Service hours may also apply at CTRC. Our volunteers are vital to our program, and help support our organization while we support our community.No previous experience is necessary.CTRC hosts a 'Thursday Tech Nite' program in Novato.We open our tech benches on Thursdays from 5pm-9pm.Anyone who wants to help us build computers and load Ubuntu Linux on them is welcome to join us.These are the computers we donate back out to the community, so, the more we make, the more we help.We have a limited number of workstations. Be prepared to share with strangers.Please DON'T bring any outside projects to work on.If you are younger than 14, you MUST be accompanied by a parent or designated guardian.(And, yes, they have to stay here with you.).If you need volunteer hours for school or community service, don't forget to bring your time-sheet.Please, no open-toed or soft-soled (i.e., slippers, moccasins, etc.) shoes. We are an active warehouse, collecting all manner of electronic bric-a-brac, and we don't want you stepping on stray debris or stubbing your toe. Volunteer Applications for both locations can be downloaded from our website, and MUST be on filewith CTRC before participation is allowed.
