Why Energy Efficiency?

Our energy future can be decided NOW by adopting energy efficiency as the first solution for addressing global energy demand. Development and implementation of energy-efficient products, technologies and services saves consumers and businesses money, drives innovation and productivity, creates jobs, supports a cleaner environment, and reduces dependence on imported oil. Most importantly, it does so without sacrifice - energy efficiency enables us to do more while using less energy.

Our History & Mission

The Alliance to Save Energy began in response to a critical period in our nation’s energy history – decades later it continues its mission to create an energy-efficient world.

Our Leadership

The Alliance is led by a diverse and bipartisan board of directors comprised of members of Congress and corporate and nonprofit executives.

Associate Members

At the core of the Alliance’s success is our ever-growing roster of Associates, which include diverse businesses, nonprofit organizations and government entities that share in the Alliance’s belief that energy efficiency builds a healthier economy, a cleaner environment and stronger energy security.

Our Team

The Alliance is staffed by a core group of professionals with diverse expertise. Committed to advancing energy efficiency as our greatest energy resource, Alliance staff promote the organization’s mission through research, education and advocacy.

Careers

Looking for a career in energy efficiency? The Alliance’s jobs board includes open positions at the Alliance and other organizations committed to developing the next generation of energy efficiency leaders.

Internships

With headquarters in Washington, D.C. Alliance internships provide a front row seat to witness energy efficiency in action! Internships are offered three times a year in several focus areas.

Buildings

Buildings – including offices, homes, and stores – use 40% of our energy and 70% of our electricity. The Alliance promotes the adoption, implementation, and advancement of building energy codes; influences national public policy and opinion on energy codes; and educates consumers on the need for and benefits of energy efficiency in buildings.

Education

School buildings are the third biggest energy user of all commercial building types, accounting for 10% of the energy used. Each year, K-12 schools spend $8 billion and universities spend $6 billion on energy. The Alliance's K-12 and higher education programs empower students to change the culture of their academic environment to one that embraces energy efficiency.

Industry

The Alliance’s Industrial Program provides outreach, research & analysis, advocacy and standards development services for federal, state, utility and private sector organizations in efforts to advance energy efficiency in the country’s 200,000 factories, refineries, steel mills, and other industrial plants, which account for about 32% of domestic energy use.

International

All countries could do more to cut down on energy waste and save the world’s energy resources. Energy efficiency provides a solution for addressing global energy demand, particularly in developing and transitioning countries due to their rapid urbanization and new markets. The Alliance has carried out international programs in more than 30 countries around the world drawing on the expertise of the Alliance’s U.S. and internationally-based staff.

Utilities

The Alliance collaborates with utilities to assist in the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of energy efficiency and renewable energy activities, which are proven to be the cheapest, fastest, and cleanest ways to respond to utility shortages and challenges.

State & Local Policy

States and localities have primary responsibility for many policy areas that have a great impact on energy use and efficiency, including building codes, utility regulation, and community planning. The Alliance works with other stakeholders to develop and promote successful state and local energy efficiency policies.
