Phoenix Power Group LLC, a privately held company incorporated in Tennessee, was established to develop alternative energy technologies that are environmentally friendly and that make good business sense. Phoenix has entered into license agreements with several companies that are leaders in their industry for the proprietary components of its Waste Oil Electrical Generators. In addition, Phoenix has patents pending for elements of this revolutionary technology and has the worldwide rights for waste oil to power applications. The company believes that our intellectual property rights, state-of-the-art technology and decades of experience in the used oil market will place it in a leadership position in this exciting new industry.
Being an environmentally-conscious company, Phoenix has significant interest in projects in underdeveloped countries. Many of these areas have vast supplies of waste oil, but have no means to effectively utilize it. The majority of these areas often suffer from the same adversity: lack of electricity and/or clean drinking water. Over 1.2 billion people - 20% of the world's population - are still without access to electricity worldwide.
Phoenix’s electrical generators can easily be utilized to 1) properly dispose of a potential surface and groundwater contaminant; 2) provide needed inexpensiveelectricity; 3) power water treatment facilities to provide drinkable water; and 4) power small hospital/clinic facilities. PPG EXECUTIVE TEAM
Thomas V Thillen, President, has over 35 years in the design, construction and program management. Mr. Thillen has developed two additional start-up companies from scratch including strategic planning, services development, marketing and process and procedure development. He has been responsible for national programs and has worked for clients such as Ford, General Motors, Harrah’s and Victory Lane.
Phoenix Waste Oil Electrical Generators
The Phoenix Waste Oil Electrical Generator (genset) is a state-of-the-art generator system that is capable of utilizing waste oil products (i.e., used motor/equipment oil) or low cost Natural Gas to produce electricity for operational needs, to transfer excess power to a power grid, and/or provide heat to the ambient working environment (Combined Heat and Power [CHP] or Cogeneration). Utilizing the revolutionary patent pending Phoenix Steam Generator (PSG) (pictured below in red) and a steam-powered external combustion engine, the Phoenix genset system is designed to produce from 10 to 13kW of electrical power.
The Phoenix genset operation is straightforward. In the case of used oil, the oil is pumped from a storage tank through filters to the PSG and ignited [Note: If fueled by Natural Gas, the fuel is piped directly to the PSG). Steel tubes containing the working fluid are coiled in the chamber. This fluid is turned to steam and directed to an engine. This, in turn, produces mechanical motion turning a shaft leading to the electric generator. The rotation in the electric motor produces the electricity. Once the steam is exhausted from the engine, it travels through the heat exchange system, cooling and condensing the steam back into a liquid and then back into the PSG to repeat the process. The Phoenix genset is a completely enclosed system.
As one can clearly see, the Phoenix genset is a revolutionary combination of new and old technology. Keep in mind that other than the PSG and the external combustion engine, the majority of the components are 'off the shelf' with UL ratings and a long history of outstanding performance and dependability.
FREE OR LOW COST FUEL
The Phoenix genset can be equipped to operate on either waste (used) oil or Natural Gas. In the case of used oil, the fuel is essentially free since it is a byproduct of facility operations. It has already served its intended purpose and has been previously expensed. If fueled by Natural Gas, the extremely low cost and massive availability makes it an extremely attractive fuel source.
LOW EMISSIONS
The Phoenix genset utilizes a high-tech Phoenix Steam Generator (PSG) and an external combustion engine. In this configuration, the fuel stays in the combustion chamber much longer than an internal combustion engine. This allows the fuel to be more thoroughly burned, which greatly minimizes harmful emissions to the atmosphere. A gasoline or diesel-powered engine uses explosions to power the engine. These explosions last only a millisecond which does not allow the fuel to be completely burned; thereby, exhausting more pollution. The Phoenix genset emissions are essentially free of NOx, with insignificant SO2 levels. In addition, there is virtually no 'burned oil' odor from the unit, as opposed to some commonly commercially-available oil burning/heating units.
NO GROUNDWATER CONTAMINATION
Waste (used) oil is a potential soil, surface water and groundwater contaminant. A very small percentage is actually re-refined and some is used for other purposes. Unfortunately, a large portion is disposed of incorrectly. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, waste oil from one oil change can contaminate 1 million gallons of fresh water. The Phoenix genset thoroughly and cleanly combusts the fuel in the PSG, which eliminates the potential release of the waste oil to the environment.
LIABILITY ELIMINATED
Cradle-to-grave liability and associated liability insurance costs are eliminated due to the fact that all of the waste oil is burned in our genset. There is no need to have it disposed of in landfills or transported off site by third party collectors.
YEAR-ROUND USE
Unlike common waste oil heaters, the Phoenix genset can operate year-round and in regions with warmer climates (i.e., Southern and Western regions of the U.S.). Since it produces electrical power plus ambient heat (Combined Heat and Power [CHP]), it has much more flexibility in how it is used. In addition, unlike wind or solar power, the Phoenix genset is not restricted by the lack of wind or sunshine.
RETURN ON INVESTMENT
The Phoenix genset is designed to produce electricity that can be used to power operations or transferred back to the grid. Due to this reduced need for expensive electricity from the utility company, we anticipate a payback time of around two to three years and positive cash flow within 12 months, in most instances. The Return on investment should exceed the 30% range.
