The mission of ECO2Capture™ is to use its patented membrane technology to offer a cost effective solution for the mass transfer of gases into liquid media. Initial efforts are focused on the use of this technology to enhance the capture of CO2 for use in the production of microalgae products for multiple end use applications.

ECO2Capture™ technologies address the opportunity to make algae production more cost competitive by providing solutions that make existing algal growth systems more efficient and effective.

ECO2Capture™ technologies allow algae producers to realize:

  • A more efficient delivery of process gases, such as CO2. By taking “free” CO2 from the air and putting it in water, CO2 costs are reduced, which results in a direct lowering of the overall cost of production.
  • More stable and reliable control of pH. A stable pH environment is critical for consistent and productive algae growth environments.
  • Both of these benefits with their existing growth systems. ECO2Capture™ technologies can be retrofitted to any type of algae production system – open or closed, proprietary or not.

In addition, ECO2Capture™ technologies provide an advantage for those producers that are investigating the use of waste streams, such as flue gases, as a source of production inputs by:

  • Capturing the CO2 from the flue gas in an aqueous form, the algae can be grown in a more controlled environment, thereby improving the quality of algae production. Many times, the costs associated with bringing flue gasses to the production facility are too high or the process not feasible. ECO2Capture™ technologies offer the opportunity to change this.

Why Is Algae So Important

The algae market is a growing green tech industry. There are over 2500 known uses for algae today ranging from use as a biofuel feedstock to nutraceutical ingredients. With over 10,000 known species of algae today, algae based products are becoming developed as alternatives to conventional petroleum based products, such as fuels, specialty chemicals and feed ingredients.

Algae production also provides other environmental benefits. It can be produced in a variety of water sources that are otherwise unusable and does not compete with other sources of non-petroleum alternatives that are also food sources. Of particular benefit from an environmental perspective is that algae remove dangerous chemicals, such as ammonia and phosphates, from water, making algae production a bioremediation pathway for polluted water.

What is Algaculture

Algaculture is the purposed production of algae based products, in essence, algae farming. It is the technique of cultivating certain types of algae under controlled conditions. Some species of algae contain high levels of lipids, or oils, which have the potential to be used as feedstocks to replace or augment other conventional feedstocks (such as petroleum). Hence, much of the initial interest in algaculture has been focused on the development of a cost effective means to produce feedstock for use in the production of bio-based fuels. The amount of investment in the development of algaculture as an industry has exceeded several billions of dollars and continues to grow as more industries realize the benefits that algaculture offers.

Algaculture is still a developing and growing science. Successful algacultural endeavors are built upon a sound understanding of the science of algae production coupled with an understanding and adoption of sound engineering principles of process control and process stability. ECO2Capture™ technologies offer an attractive approach that recognizes these principles, with the end result being a more cost effective and competitive operation.

Our Solutions

Algae producers with diverse market opportunities are potential users of the ECO2Capture™ Open Growth, Closed Growth or Gas Stream applications. ECO2Capture™ products offer solutions to the algae producer's need to reduce the cost by enhancing the growth rate of algae and efficiency of existing production processes

Our platform technologies enable algae producers to significantly lower costs

  • Delivers mission critical CO2 at 20X rate of air
  • Recovers up to 20% lost productivity

How do we do this?

In simple terms, the ECO2Capture™ technologies improve the mass transfer of a gas (for example, CO2) into a liquid media (for example, water). The liquid media film is distributed across the membrane and absorbs CO2 and other soluble gases as it flows down the membrane substrate. The result is a film saturated with inorganic carbon ready for delivery to the algae
