Supagas began in 1968 under the name of Australian Forklifts in the southeast suburb of Moorabbin when Bill Haddrell and his brothers Ray and Don started selling and hiring forklifts and LPG forklift cylinders. The business grew quickly and moved to larger premises in Herald St, Cheltenham where Supagas still operates today. In 1972, the selling and hiring of pallets was added to the business. So successful was the pallet business in 1975, to cope with growing demand for pallets, Tyabb wood mill was purchased to supply softwood to the operation. Five years later, in 1978, the pallet business was sold. The Haddrells in 1982, won the contract to distribute Bulk LPG for Mobil in conjunction with its forklift cylinder business and its new fleet of LPG tankers, it heralded a very successful era and formed the foundation for the company’s LPG operation. In 1985, the Supagas name was formed from its original name of Australian Forklifts. The decision was also made to expand into the Mornington Peninsula area, opening a new retail shop under the name of Peninsula Gas. This lasted a short time before changing back to the Supagas name.In 1993, Supagas continued to grow its retail outlets with the opening of the Sunshine store. In 1995, Supagas sold the Mobil auto LPG distribution division to concentrate on its industrial and domestic LPG bulk and cylinder business. Supagas’ reputation as a quality supplier with the best service in town grew. Our customers wanted a wider range of products. Oxygen, acetylene and argon products were in large demand and as a result the decision was made to build an industrial gas plant. To facilitate the demand for new products, five acres were purchased at Commercial Drv, Dandenong in 1995 to build the most modern industrial gas plant available. In the following years, modern offices and a retail shop were built on site to house our staff and service customers in the local area.Helium and CO2 filling facilities were added along with the LPG cylinder testing and refurbishment plant to cater for all types of LPG bulk vessels and cylinders. In the following years, two more retail stores were opened in Kilsyth (1998) and Somerton (2002).By 2004, Supagas has grown to become one of the most successful LPG and Industrial gascompanies in the Melbourne and Mornington Peninsula areas.Manufacture and supply of Bulk Industrial Gases, Welding Gases, Speciality Gases, Liquid Nitrogen, Liquid Oxygen, CO2, Argon, Helium, LPG, Oxygen, Inergen, Welding Products, Shield Gases, Hospitality Gases, Hydrogen. At Supagas, exceptional customer service governs every aspect of our business from answering the phones to making special deliveries. We work on first names with our customers, understand their business, anticipate needs and solve problems. It’s a can-do attitude, that is every bit as important to us as our advanced manufacturing facilities, modern transport fleet and computerized order tracking.Supagas was founded by three brothers for whom teamwork came naturally.
