As one of the global leaders with nearly 50 years’ experience in high-efficiency solar space cell technology, AZUR SPACE uses its technological expertise to contribute its significant part to the space and CPV market. The production facility of AZUR SPACE includes epitaxy, cell technology,
assembly and testing divisions with an operation capability of 24 hours on seven days a week. AZUR SPACE Solar Power GmbH has about 200 employees. The company is located in Heilbronn, Germany and headed by Dr. Klaus-Dieter Rasch and Jürgen Heizmann.
The roots of AZUR SPACE Solar Power
The roots are closely linked to more than 100 years of industrial history of AEG-Telefunken.
Founded in 1964 as a part of Telefunken, the company developed and manufactured solar cells for the first German satellite 'AZUR', launched in 1969. Since that time, more than 10 million Si as well as 1.5 million GaAs solar cells have been provided for more than 400 space projects.
The technologies initially developed by AZUR SPACE for space applications, are now used in terrestrial PV manufacturing and made AZUR SPACE to the pioneer of European photovoltaics.
- 1964 Telefunken GmbH
- 1982 AEG
- 1989 Daimler Chrysler Aerospace
- 1994 Angewandte Solarenergie ASE
- 2000 RWE
- 2002 RWE Space Solar Power GmbH
- 2006 AZUR SPACE Solar Power GmbH (100% owned Generali Group)
In 2007, AZUR SPACE transferred its latest space technology based on high performance multi-junction solar cells for the terrestrial concentrator photovoltaics (CPV) market. Over the last years, the emerging CPV market has become a continuously growing business division in the AZUR SPACE product portfolio.
Technology
Our state-of-the-art multi-junction solar cells are sophisticated optoelectronic devices and require outstanding expertise on each manufacturing step.
In order to meet customer requirements for performance, cost and time-to-market, we focus on three basic principles: process optimization for high throughput, high level of in-process control, and rapid technology and product development directly in the production environment.
This combination secures AZUR SPACE a strong position on highly competitive both space PV and terrestrial CPV markets.
The company’s technology capabilities cover the complete customer service ranged from specific cell design through device fabrication and up to extensive final product characterization.
Available manufacturing capacity enables us to run our production orders 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
