Odense Waste Management Company is an experienced partner with roots back to 1880s. We happily share our experience with collegues all over the world.

Odense Waste Management Company offers a wide range of well-functioning solid waste management activities and solutions within a limited urban area and within one organisational set-up, such as:

• collection of household refuse, hazardous waste and recyclable paper from 90 000 households,
• operation of 8 recycling stations,  
• about 150 bring banks for bottles,
• street cleaning 
• participation in operation of central sorting facility for industrial waste in cooperation with private waste handling company,
• operation of Odense Environmental Centre which comprises landfilling, sorting, recycling and composting activities as well as a Training Centre
• extraction of landfill gas from the former Stige Island dumpsite, providing electricity via the public grid for about 2 300 households and heating via the district heating grid for about 400 households
• closure and aftercare of the old dumpsite at Stige Island, including careful monitoring, collection and treatment of leachate.

In response to a growing demand for a more structured dissemination of the acquired know-how within the company, Odense Waste Management Company has been transforming its many years of experience and lessons learned into flexible packages of operation and maintenance support and manuals as well as flexible modular training and practice services. These services are focusing on the practical application of well established solid waste management technologies and knowledge.

Certificates

Realizing that it is also our responsibility to take care of the environment, we are attempting to follow a pro-active path to protect environment. Odense Waste Management Company Ltd. is certified according to the environmental management standards ISO 14001 and EMAS.
At the same time we focus on the health and safety of the employees. In order to prove our systematic work in this respect we have also been certified according to the health and safety standard OHSAS 18000. 

ISO 14001

ISO 14001 is an internationally accepted specification for an environmental management system. It specifies requirements for establishing an environmental policy, determining environmental aspects and impacts of products, activities, and services, planning environmental objectives and measurable targets, implementation and operation of programs to meet objectives and targets, checking and corrective action, and management review. EMAS

EMAS ( Eco-Management and Audit Sceme) is a voluntary European Community initiative designed to improve the environmental performance of companies. Its aim is to recognise and reward those organisations that go beyond minimum legal compliance and continously improve their environmental performance. Participating organisations must regularly produce a public environmental statement that reports on their environmental performance. Minimising the amount of waste that is produced, reducing energy consumption and making more efficient use of resources can all lead to financial cost savings, in addition to helping to protect and improve the environment.
