J&J Carter Ltd
Unit 2,, 34 Walworth Road Walworth Business Park, Andover, , Hampshire, United Kingdom | Energy
J & J Carter Limited was founded in 1988 by John Carter who, with 30 years prior experience in structure rental and manufacture, built the foundation on which the company stands today. The company was latterly joined by his two sons Robert and Charlie, who were brought up within the industry. The company is built on family values and our key assets are our staff who help realise the beautifully tailored structures and projects we produce.
We are committed to serving clients world-wide, either directly or through a network of agents and distributors. We have structures in all corners of the globe, from the Orient to the west coast of America. J & J Carter are also working in collaboration with UKTI to promote our product range overseas.
Quality Materials & Methods
By having the degree of control only possible with extensive in-house facilities, we are able to excel at meeting tight deadlines and for a price only achievable with no outsourcing requirements.
Reassuringly, it is our policy to test-fit everything prior to dispatch to ensure it is accurate and will function as required once it arrives.
We know we can supply you with the best in the industry - in order to do this we make continual investment in the latest technologies and training to not only meet but exceed all requirements and regulations. Using special fabrics, state of the art Computer Aided Design and manufacturing methods we can design and manufacture almost any style of structure.
The quality of our services and workmanship is regulated by our ISO9001 Quality Assurance procedures. This has been recognised by the various industry awards that we have won over the years, both in the UK and USA.
Our constant development process ensures we remain the market leaders for fabric structures and architecture.
Health & Safety Policy
We operate with a comprehensive health & safety policy and consistently work to provide the training, instruction and supervision to enable employees to perform their work tasks safely. Our aim is to continually improve the company's performance by keeping up to date with new and existing regulations and completing all work activities in accordance with well-defined Approved Codes of Practice as laid down by legislation.
Services
Engineering & Design
Before any work takes place on site we work with you to visualise your design ideas so you can see what the finished result will look like. Our in-house design team focuses on function and form and use latest technologies to produce the most striking and appropriate structures.
We offer full design, engineered drawings and calculations. The engineer will take the architectural brief and commence the design with a series of general arrangements, following client’s approval, then develop the general arrangements into full production model and drawings. Creating the 3D form with specialist software and extracting the parts which make up the structure will provide fabrication shop drawings.
Manufacture
Our textile fabrication facilities are built upon a firm foundation of intense investment in the latest Computer Controlled Cutting, High Frequency Welding, Heat Sealing, Sewing and finishing equipment.
Our in-house steel and aluminium fabrication facility is often tasked with the job of delivering some of the most challenging of projects within a short timescale. Our staff are not just fabricators or welders but craftsmen who take pride in their work.
Our skilled, experienced team and advanced production facility enable us to provide tensile structures such as air supported domes, fabric frame constructions and tensioned membrane structures, applications include marquees, exhibition halls, sports halls, warehousing, showrooms and corporate hospitality pavilions, among others.
Please see the individual sections for specific purpose built structures.
Project Management
From advising on the most suitable product for the location and purpose, to overseeing design, manufacture and arranging installation, we can manage a whole project from concept to completion. A project manager would be specifically allocated to your project who will use their technical knowledge, understanding of your industry and ability to multi-task to ensure that the job is managed efficiently from initial briefing to completion.
Installation
Our crew of specialist tent and structure installers are trained and capable of fitting any type of structure, interior or exterior, and the process reflects our strict health and safety policy.
Maintenance
Once the structure is erected and handed over to the client, we are able to offer maintenance systems. Like any building, tensile structures will require some, albeit minimal, maintenance. To keep the membranes looking as good as the day it was installed it will require occasional cleaning.
Architecture & Construction
Tensile structures are now an acceptable building material, permitting the design of exciting roof forms that would be almost impossible with traditional building methods. Not only do tensile structures offer the variety of form, but also translucency, colour, clearspan and softness.
These structures are lightweight using tension to create the three dimensional form. Such structures have been developed since the 1970’s and now offer some of the most dramatic architectural works to date. Membrane structures span generations in their durability, offering in excess of 30 years of lifespan, and fire retardency up to Class O.
Our structures are all prefabricated to engineered drawings and calculations, with some membranes being as large as 1000 sq.m before reaching site. The size of the overall structure can be relatively unlimited when employing site joints. Applications include: entrances, walkways, features, sports stadia, atria, retail, exhibitions, and landmarks.
All the parts which make up the structure are C.N.C nested to minimise material wastage and cut to ensure millimetre perfect accuracy. The 3D membrane model will have geodesic seams, creating individual panels which are joined by welding. Prior to fabrication, samples of the materials are tested for quality and the factory also ensures it’s welding strength by seam testing on our in-house 25kN tensile testing machine.
Our single source of supply approach to tensile structures utilises our in house design, project management, steel fabrication, membrane fabrication and installation services. Our erectors have many years experience in the field and ensure that health and safety is paramount at all times. Throughout the design phase we always consult our erectors to ensure that the structure is designed to be erected easily and safely.
