Kyotherm SAS

3 rue de Copenhague 75008 Paris, France | Energy

Renewable energy sources (such as wind, solar, hydro, geothermal, biomass, ...) and energy savings are usually available at limited or no cost, but they require significant upfront investments in order to be effectively exploited, which limits their widespread use.

Our Mission: equity investor in biomass, geothermal energy and energy savings projects

Kyotherm’s purpose is to provide project capital to finance renewable heating and energy savings projects through the conclusion of 10 to 25 years thermal energy or energy performance contracts. Kyotherm, a Société par Actions Simplifiée, is registered in France and is managed by Arnaud Susplugas, who has advised from 2007 to 2011 the Investment Committee of a leader in the renewable energy and heating sector, in investing or divesting in more than one hundred renewable heating projects and companies operating in the sector. The projects represented a total of several thousand MW of thermal capacity, in biomass, geothermal and solar energy and/or cogeneration, mainly for district heating networks in various parts of Europe.

The professionals at Kyotherm combine the expertise of individuals with prior experience in the energy sector, either with development, construction, financing, operational or technical backgrounds, who have demonstrated they can successfully take energy efficiency projects through completion and operation. Kyotherm’s experience in renewable heating and energy savings projects has enabled it to build strong relationships with a number of developers, equipment manufacturers, financial institutions and the wider renewable community.

History

Kyotherm benefits from the industrial experience of several generations in the generation of thermal energy, including biomass. This history, made of pioneering spirit, innovation and success, gives Kyotherm and its management the values and energy to ensure a sustainable development of our partnerships, with a sense of our impact on future generations.

Some facts of this history of more than 150 years:

  • In 1838, Joseph Zani, the great-great-great-grandfather of the founder of Kyotherm, left the region of Santa Maria Maggiore in Italy to overcome the economic difficulties of this poor region and moved to Dole in France. His stated profession at that time was “installing and repairing wood furnaces and fireplaces”.
  • In 1845, a trade almanac indicates the presence of Zani and cousins at 20 Grande Rue in Dole, with the profession “poêlier” (“Poêlier” : one that manufactures, sells and installs stoves and wood burning installations). That same year, the family and the company moved into the city of Besancon.
  • In 1856, business took a good swing, the company had two workers and three apprentices. For naturalization purposes, the Mayor of Besançon wrote in a letter to the prefect that “Sieur Andre Zani, who is associated with his father, benefits from public esteem”.
  • In 1870, Louis Alphonse Clere, a professor at the Ecole Normale, married the only daughter of the family. A proof of the good health of the company, he quickly quit his position to join the company. On August 26, 1880, he filed both on its name and on behalf of the company “a patent for a continuous burning stove and ventilation”. Innovation helped increase the activity in wood boilers.
