High Peak Environmental Services Ltd

Dale Court, 11 Dew Pond Lane, Buxton, Derbyshire, United Kingdom | Cardboard Recycling

Cardboard is one of the most straightforward materials to re-cycle. At our premises it is sorted & baled into 'mill sized bales', which weigh about half a tonne each. When there are enough bales to make a load they are delivered to a board mill, where the bales are broken & stirred in water to create pulp, then rolled & dried to be formed into new cardboard.

What causes problems with re-cycling?

Materials which are not cardboard, such as expanded polystyrene & other loose fill materials, polythene & various plastics, not only cannot be re-cycled into cardboard, but if included may cause the board mill to reject the whole load, which may then have to go to landfill. This means manually removing such materials for disposal. Not only does this increase the cost of baling the cardboard, but also creates an additional cost for the waste disposal.

Paper

Paper is fairly straightforward to re-cycle. At our premises it is sorted & baled into 'mill sized bales', which weigh about half a tonne each. When there are enough bales of a grade they are delivered to a paper mill. For most applications the bales are broken & stirred in water to create pulp, then the inks are removed. The pulp is then rolled & dried to be formed into paper.
