HESCO inspectors are certified mobile and tower crane surveyors.They are all licensed crane operators and hold OSHA 10 cards. All have transportation workers identification cards. We are the crane safety specialist.

Heavy Equipment Services Company (HESCO) was formed in 1990 by Edward Shapiro.

Ed’s prior experience with lift equipment came from working, then owning and operating Shapiro Equipment Corporation, an equipment distributorship serving the principal territory of Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. Shapiro Equipment was founded in 1954 by Irving Shapiro and Ed began his full time career there in 1965, becoming owner in 1977. The principal focus was on mobile cranes and excavators with additional lines for wheel loaders, concrete pumps and an extensive rental fleet of aerial lifts both scissor and shooting boom types. Sales, rentals, rebuilding and exporting were the routine activities.

1990 became a pivotal year for crane safety and Heavy Equipment Services Company became the focus. Growth has been steady and today HESCO inspects approximately 1,600 devices per year. They are primarily located through the Northeast. In 1992 Ed joined the Crane Certification Association of America. Membership in this organization has been very rewarding and he served as President from 2008 to 2011. Additional industry involvements include membership on the State of Connecticut Examining Board for Crane Operators, chairing the Safety Committee for Connecticut Construction Industries Association, co-chairing the new Crane Inspection Certification Committee at NCCCO, and servicing on the Associates Board of Spectware, Incorporated. Ed is a licensed crane operator in the State of CT., holds a Certified Crane Surveyor’s card for Mobile and Tower Cranes from the Crane Certification Association of America and Mobile Crane Inspection Certification from NCCCO.
