Working closely with steel mills and scrap brokers, Wentworth Metal Recycling has developed product lines that fit the needs of particular mills that we are supplying. Both the ferrous and non-ferrous markets are highly competitive and volatile. The Company’s success in these areas is attributed to the trading expertise and entrepreneurial skills of its managers.

COMPANY OVERVIEW

HISTORY

Beginning with the quest for a better life in Canada, the roots of Wentworth Metal Recycling reach back as far as Eastern Europe, prior to World War I. Crossing the Atlantic Sam Rochwerg arrived in Hamilton in 1917. Beginning as a small scrap metal peddler, Sam excelled in the industry, and in 1933, Sam's Auto Wrecking was established on Caroline Street North in Hamilton's downtown core. Focusing on honest business practices, and a vast knowledge of the industry, Sam's Auto Wrecking flourished.

Wentworth Metal Recycling was formed in 1981 when it's parent Company, Sam's Auto Wrecking Co. Limited, was expropriated from it's downtown location after over 50 years of operation at that location. Being committed to the City of Hamilton, the Company chose a new location in the north-end industrial core where it has successfully operated since that time. The business was eventually taken over by Harold Rochwerg, the son of Sam, and to this day the Company relies on his over 60 years of expertise in the scrap metal recycling business. Ken and Lorne Rochwerg, the sons of Harold, now manage the day-to-day operations of the Company. Brian Rochwerg, the son of Lorne, and Eric Rochwerg, the son of Ken, have recently joined the business. Truly a family business, Wentworth Metal Recycling, now in its third and fourth generation, looks forward to its successful future in the City of Hamilton.

Over the course of the last few years, Wentworth Metal Recycling has achieved its ISO:9000 designation and has implemented an outstanding Health and Safety program.

The Company's philosophy is to make all employees feel a part of the 'extended' family, encourage ongoing personal development and draw on the strengths of each employee. As a result, there are several staff employed by Wentworth Metal Recycling with over 25 years of service to the Company. By treating each employee with dignity and respect, the goals of the Company are met because the firm is only as strong as its employees.
