Digital Products International, Inc. was originally founded in 1971 in St. Louis, Missouri, as Dick Proctor Imports. We began operations as an importer of factory brand consumer electronics from Asia. In 1973, the company began designing and contracting for the manufacture of products under our own brand name, 'Gran Prix Electronics.' Development continued until the line consisted only of products exclusively designed and manufactured for Gran Prix.
Dick Proctor Imports, Inc. formally changed names to GPX, Inc. in 1985, and subsequently, the product brand changed from Gran Prix to GPX. The following year, the Dutch company Hagemeyer, N.V. acquired a majority interest in GPX. In 2003, Bill Fetter came on board as CEO. He set GPX on a new growth path by adding new categories and expanding the company’s relationship with retailers. In April 2004, GPX was purchased by a private equity firm based in New Jersey that specialized in the acquisition of platform companies with significant growth potential.
In 2007, GPX assumed a new corporate identity, Digital Products International, Inc. (DPI, Inc.), to better reflect our expansion of products. The same year, the company launched the iLive brand, which included docking and charging products in partnership with Apple. This provided one of the broadest consumer electronic audio and video product portfolios available on the market. This assortment includes Shelf Music Systems, Personal Audio Players, Home Theater Systems, Televisions, AM/FM Radios, Digital Audio (MP3/WMP) Devices and Accessories, among others. Following the transition to DPI, Inc., our management acquired full control of the company in 2008 to maintain our original mission.
DPI, Inc. expanded our offering in 2010 with the brand Culinair, offering stylish and affordable home and kitchen appliances. Shortly after, we revitalized the iLive brand with a shift from docked accessories to Bluetooth-enabled products.
In 2012, DPI, Inc. launched Zeki, a brand of multi-touch Android tablets along with an expansive array of accessories. Today that assortment includes everything from portable power chargers to Bluetooth earbuds and headphones. We launched a Windows tablet under the Zeki brand in 2014, further broadening our tablet portfolio. These high-quality tablets signaled an ambitious new era for us, incorporating the latest in capacitive multi-touch technology, built-in Wi-Fi, and expandable memory up to 32GB.
In 2015, we debuted SkyRider as our leading brand in the latest drone technology. Today SkyRider has drones ranging from palm-sized to larger, hobbyist-sized models with or without cameras. Gran Prix, a throwback to the company’s heritage, also debuted in late 2015 with a line of remote controlled (RC) cars.
Further developing the brand in 2016, DPI, Inc. revealed iLive Platinum as our premium audio brand. Most notably, iLive Platinum features a family of Wi-Fi enabled speakers, which allow for multi-room playing with smart home capabilities.
After identifying some unique business opportunities, management sought to broaden the spectrum of the company with a new acquisition. In 2015, DPI, Inc. purchased Amped Wireless, a high-end, long-range wireless consumer and small business communication products company located in Ontario, California.
Product range expanded in 2017 with the launch of the Anchor brand to include TV mounts and again in 2020 with the DecorTech line of tech-integrated furniture. Existing proprietary brands broadened their catalog with an emphasis on wellness technology, including wireless massagers, activity trackers, and sleep aids.
In 2020, DPI, Inc. launched an in-house, full-color decorating service to provide quicker retail product customization to customers.
DPI, Inc. headquarters and distribution center is in a state-of-the-art, 330,000 square foot facility in downtown St. Louis, Missouri.
We have built a solid reputation with excellent product quality and affordability. Our success is based on the principles of exceeding the expectations of our customers by offering the latest in technology and features, packaged in world-class designs—all at affordable prices.
