Maryland Portable Concrete

Riverside, California, United States | Waste Management

Maryland Portable Concrete, Inc., one of the last family owned and operated businesses in the region, is the largest producer of ready mix concrete in the Maryland-Delaware-Pennsylvania, Tri-State area. Company owner Gregory White is a lifelong resident of Harford County, Maryland. Prior to Greg becoming sole owner of MPC in 2016, he was part owner with Marshall Hamilton and Carolyn Hamilton. While growing up, both Marshall (Marty) and his sister Carolyn worked for their father, W. Noble Hamilton. Noble came from a poor farming family and had only a fourth grade education. Through hands-on experience and hard work he acquired the skills to start a home-building business in Harford County.

The business struggled through hard times during the depression era. Eventually, after the Second World War, his construction business revived, establishing W. Noble Hamilton as a respected and trusted local developer, contractor, and home builder. Noble's jobs were acquired and completed on a handshake. Marty worked as project manager, mechanic, driver, and equipment operator, while Carolyn managed the accounting office, scalehouse, and product dispatching.

In 1968, in an effort to better supply their own jobs with concrete, Noble, his son Marty, and daughter Carolyn established W. Noble Hamilton and Son, a concrete mobile mixer operation.  They purchased two concrete mobile trucks, and modified the family barn in Havre de Grace, Maryland, into a truck loading facility, all self-engineered and fabricated. The company operated for twelve years, expanding to eleven trucks, sometimes having more business than could be handled and other times scratching to find the next dollar to pay the bills.

In 1980, with local demand for concrete on the rise, Marty and Carolyn established Maryland Portable Concrete, a conventional ready mix concrete operation. Instilled with Noble Hamilton's honest business ideals and respected credit foundation, Marty and Carolyn started with a handful of rebuilt mixer trucks, and erected a portable plant in the planned community of Riverside, in Harford County, Maryland. They provided ready-mixed concrete for curbing, sidewalks, home building, and commercial buildings. Marty drove a truck delivering concrete during the day and made equipment and plant repairs at night. Carolyn managed the office and dispatching. Carolyn's son, Gregory White, the third generation of the Hamilton family, became actively involved in the family business as a yard man, loader operator, and plant batch operator.

Through hard work, honest business practices, and personal customer contact that only a family owned business can provide, the company has grown over the years. Today, Maryland Portable Concrete owns and operates two plants in Harford County and two in Cecil County. Gregory White, now President and sole owner, presently directs all company operations. The company employs over one hundred and fifty employees, all residents of local counties.

A fleet of mixer trucks (front and rear discharge) deliver to an expanded service area including Harford, Cecil, Baltimore, Anne Arundel Counties, and Baltimore City; New Castle County, Delaware; Chester, Lancaster and York Counties, Pennsylvania.

A fleet of company owned dump trucks and tanker trucks haul the raw materials to the production facilities and service our customers' material hauling needs.

In an effort to better serve our customers, the company has expanded into the labor saving service of concrete pumping, with a fleet of 38 meter concrete pump trucks. Our rapidly expanding fleet of roll-off trucks and containers allows Maryland Portable Concrete yet another way by which to serve our customers. We can offer fast, same-day service on any size container for all your cleanup and disposal needs.

In the summer of 2008, we proudly introduced an environmentally green alternative to expensive silt fences and unsightly concrete dumping areas found on every construction site. Our new Concrete Rinse & Roll washout containers provide a cost effective way to manage cementitious waste products and the associated caustic water. We can now contain and remove 100% of these waste products from your job site and recycle them.

All of our many services can be scheduled with just one phone call, where customers speak directly with the plant personnel. This direct one-on-one personal service is what separates Maryland Portable Concrete from the competition. Our company slogan is 'family pride-customer friendly', a tradition that started in the 1940's and continues into the 21st century.
