ORGANIC MATTERS HAWAII

Soil-enriching compost and planting mixes for your home and our community

Our mission is to create a closed-loop regenerative agricultural system for our community by using recyclable organic material and converting it into life producing soil.

Our Process

Our composting process is based on scientific research and years of experience. We organically convert recyclable organic material into fully cured compost all while monitoring the process and amending for desirable growing properties and nutrients. The final product is weed and pathogen free, ready to be used in your garden or landscape.

Our Story

Deano Maruyama, founder & operator

Mission is to create a closed-loop regenerative agricultural system for our community by using recyclable organic material and converting it into life producing soil. It all began in 2009. I had just graduated with a degree in business administration from San Diego State University and was looking for a way to move home to Kona. My dad had learned the ins and outs of agriculture through years of experience in the industry. He offered to teach me what he knew, and I gratefully accepted. At around the same time, I became a new father. With parenthood came a new drive to see my daughter grow up in a greener world. We embarked on the journey with a hand-me-down tractor, a self-built screener and a mission to protect the environment for future generations.
