Who We Are

Greener Bay Compost is Green Bay’s premier compost company, serving Northeastern Wisconsin with our Award-Winning and one-of-a-kind Residential and Commercial Compost Pickup Services, plus year-round sales of our nutrient-rich, “plant superfood” compost.

Our Compost Pickup Services, which are essentially Waste Management services mixed with Recycling operations, were designed to help our environment by diverting as much would-be organic waste (such as food scraps) from landfill as possible and composting it.

What We Do

Every week, we collect over a ton of food waste (such as fruit and vegetable scraps, spent coffee grounds, egg shells, etc.) and other organics, which would normally end up in a landfill, from our nearly 200 Compost Pickup Service subscribers and transport it to our compost site in the Town of Lessor (Shawano County, Wisconsin), where we convert it into a nutrient-rich soil amendment known as compost, which we then reward our subscribers with and make available for sale, year-round, to the general public.

The process we use is known as “hot composting,” which involves us building long piles (known as windrows) of food waste mixed with wood shavings, which we turn and water (and otherwise maintain) for several months, to keep tiny bacteria called “microbes” inside the piles (which are responsible for the breakdown of the materials in the piles) alive and thriving.

(Important to note: Unlike the landfilling of food waste, our process produces little to no methane—a toxic greenhouse gas more than 20 times more potent than carbon dioxide (and a major contributor to climate change).

In as little as 13 to 14 weeks, our process produces what is known as “finished compost”—an amazing soil amendment that closely resembles soil, with a rich, dark brown color and a “clean, sweet smell”—which we then screen down to 1/4” in size, thereby making it perfect not only for backyard gardens, flower beds, and agriculture, but for houseplants, lawns, golf courses, and athletic fields as well!
