Thus, the regulation establishes that companies that introduce pallets into the market as a result of production or import activity are responsible for these packaging materials. Economic operators have the obligation to recover and recycle at least 60% of the total weight of packaging placed on the market, otherwise they must pay a fee to the Environment Fund Administration (AFM). Pallets fall into the category of packaging, and damaged, broken pallets become waste. Being the heaviest and most voluminous type of packaging, the management of pallets introduced on the market imposes huge obligations and expenses on companies.
