Kaluzny Bros., Inc. (KBI) is a family-owned and operated rendering company committed to delivering sustainable recycling solutions to their customers and the environment.

KBI was founded in 1946 after World War II where three brothers from Illinois had served in the U.S. Army. While three brothers served, one sibling was turned away as his experience in rendering fats and oils was an essential, high-demand skill needed on the home front. Rendering was vital to the war effort as tallow and other oils were used to make specialty products such as nitroglycerin what went into explosives. Upon returning from the war, the four brothers joined together to start their rendering business in Joliet, Illinois.

Since its founding over 75 years ago, Kaluzny Bros., has safely recycled, in a bio-secure manner, over 300,000,000 pounds of inedible bones, fat, offal, and greases every year. As a rendering service, KBI plays an essential role in sustainably recycling valuable agricultural resources, reducing food waste, and positively contributing to local, state, national and international economies. From its two plant facilities in Joliet, they service seven surrounding states.

KBI also operates one subsidiary, Midwest Recycling Company (MRC). MRC recycles liquid fats, oils, sludge, and trap greases into essential ingredients for the oleo chemical, biofuel, and feed industries.

Not only is Kaluzny Bros. playing a critical role in keeping hundreds of millions of pounds of animal by-product material out of our nation’s landfills, they are also recycling that material into the building blocks of thousands of items society depends on each and every day.

Those items include: bindings for asphalt, candles, cellophane, ceramics, cosmetics, crayons, deodorants, detergents, insecticides, insulation, linoleum, fabric softener, biodiesel, paints & coatings, plastics, shoe polish, shaving cream, soaps, floor & car waxes, antifreezes, rubber & tires, and many more!
