Towanda Iron & Metal Inc
One River St S, Towanda, Pennsylvania, United States | Scrap Metal Recycling
Towanda Iron & Metal Company (TIMCO) is located in the heart of Towanda, Pennsylvania, on the Susquehanna & New York (S&NY) Railroad and the former Lehigh Valley Railroad spur, now being called Conrail. TIMCO is accessible to all vehicle traffic from Route 6. TIMCO was purchased by M. Barry Aronson, in 1947 from Sol Spitulnik.
Ferrous scrap is one of the most recycled materials in the world today with over 50% of the world’s steel produced from scrap. TIMCO collects, processes and markets recycled ferrous metals to many of the USA steel and foundry industries. TIMCO’s recycling meets and exceeds many of the standards that are required by the Company’s customers. Continued investment by TIMCO in the latest technology ensures that the Company achieves increased productivity, better quality output and an improved cost base.
TIMCO is engaged in the buying, grading and preparing of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, newsprint and corrugated for resale to steel mills, smelters and foundries. The company operated as an “open air” manufacturer, buying its raw material from industry, brokers and individuals preparing and changing the shape of the material for its customer (the foundries).
TIMCO’s commitment to recycling has help extend the life of the world’s dwindling base metal resources. Metal produced from recycling uses significantly less energy in the process than metal produced from virgin ores. This results in a significant reduction in the production of greenhouse gases.
TIMCO’s NON FERROUS equipment includes the use of balers to minimize the size of the material helping to reduce freight cost and loading time at customers’ premises. Non Ferrous scrap handling is also enhanced with a range of shears, balers and cable strippers. TIMCO handles a complete range of copper, brass, aluminum, lead, zinc and nickel bearing scrap (including various grades of stainless steel).
In 1990, TIMCO changed the way they were doing business, dissolving its crane business and concentrating on their ferrous and non-ferrous scrap and structural steel market places. They took more interest in their current business environment and conducted themselves accordingly to better improve their relationships with not only their customers but the community as well. Operating as an “open air” manufacturer allowed the organization the ability to buy its raw materials not only from the local industry but the community as well. Once the material is purchased, the employees begin the preparation of the materials. This includes sorting and sizing the metals by their various components. TIMCO owns and operates its own fleet of truck and trailers for the movement of their material to the various markets.
With the emergence into the 20thCentury, TIMCO looked at recycling as an entity to stay and they have positioned themselves to become a major factor in this market place. TIMCO looks forward to the long relationships they have developed with their customers, industry, and future customers.
