Győr Waste Incinerator
külterület 0610 2, Győr, Gyor-Moson-Sopron, Hungary | Waste Management
Our waste incinerator has been operating since 1990 in the northeastern border of Győr, next to the municipal sewage treatment plant. In the incinerator, which is 100% Hungarian property, we dispose of and utilize hazardous and non-hazardous industrial, institutional, and medical waste that cannot be utilized or disposed of in any other way. During incineration, the thermal energy released from the waste is utilized by generating steam. We generate electricity from the steam produced, and supply the technological steam needs of our own and neighboring wastewater treatment plants.
Over the years, we have carried out many improvements in the incinerator, which included the further development of flue gas cleaning technology, the construction of continuous measurement and data collection systems, the improvement of the efficiency of heat utilization, the construction of insulated covered storage areas and roads, and the creation of a water-saving water recycling system.
To the developments, the waste incinerator was already able to fulfill the much stricter regulations for waste incinerators from July 1, 2005 than before. The measuring instruments and computerized process control built into the technology ensure that the emissions of the burning pollutant are well below the limits prescribed for waste incinerators. On our website, since 2003, we have been publishing the incinerator's emission values daily in a form that is easy for the public to understand.
In 2006, we solved the problem of covering the waste collection site and the heat recovery boilers, which served to further enhance environmental safety. In addition, we expanded the existing office building with a modern building containing changing rooms, dining room, offices and other service facilities. At the end of the construction, a new parking lot was built and hundreds of trees and shrubs were planted around the incinerator during landscaping. Thus, together with the row of trees planted in 2000, hundreds of trees surround the site of the waste incinerator, providing a pleasant green zone.
In order to further reduce water consumption and wastewater emissions, in 2007 we built another rainwater tank and managed to return rainwater and treated wastewater to the technology. Thanks to this investment, our industrial water use was halved and our wastewater emissions were reduced to a minimum.
In 2008, we implemented the surrounding of the western side of the incinerator, which we provided with a noise protection cover. Thanks to this, our noise emission on the western side has decreased, so it is well below the legal limit. In 2008, we put a new bridge crane into operation, as well as a new slag removal device. In addition, we acquired a new set of knives for our shredder.
We replaced our chimney in 2009.
In 2011, we covered the collection point on the eastern side of the incinerator, as well as the area in front of the heat recovery boilers. We installed a magnetic iron separation machine line in the covered collection area to extract the metal content of the slag.
The waste incinerator has had ISO 9002 quality and ISO 14001 environmental certification since 1998. We have been operating an integrated ISO 9001 and 14001 system since December 2004, and accordingly we are constantly striving to further improve our environmental protection performance.
