Tammer Power

Tammervoima's plant, 170,000 tons of waste collected from 600,000 inhabitants in the regions of Pirkanmaa and Jyväskylä are used for energy every year. From this amount of waste, the utility power plant produces 400 GWh of district heat and 70 GWh of electricity with an efficiency of 95%.

The plant project started in 2010 with an environmental impact assessment. The construction work of the power plant started in the fall of 2013, and in September 2015, a waste fire broke out for the first time in Tarastenjärvi. The total cost of the construction project was 111 million euros. Commercial use of the facility began at the beginning of 2016, when municipal waste from not only Pirkanmaa but also the Jyväskylä region began to be brought to Tammervoima.

The utility power plant uses reliable grate combustion technology. The chosen technology has proven to be very reliable and the availability of the plant has been almost 100% during the entire five years of production. The flue gas cleaning technology is the best available technology and the plant's emissions into the air are clearly below the limit values ​​of the permit regulations. In addition, the flue gas scrubber is equipped with a condensate cleaning system, so the moisture contained in the waste can be recycled as additional water for the district heating network and the thermal energy contained in the flue gases can be efficiently utilized.
