It takes a long time for the fabrics to decompose. While the degradation of natural fibers and the effects of gases such as methane and CO2 released into the atmosphere during the process can take hundreds of years, synthetic fibers do not decompose at all.

Products need to be categorized as about 60% of them are reusable and must be processed to obtain new fibers or broken down to produce insulation for the automotive or construction industry. Cutting and chopping (cutting into small pieces) fabrics prepares the fabric for recycling. Typical textile waste recycling technologies consist of mechanical, chemical and thermal recycling processes. All of these methods usually require cutting and shredding waste fabrics before processing.

In the mechanical recycling process, the fabric is cut and crushed. It is further processed to recover fibers and filaments for use in new fabrics and materials. For example, in the heat treatment of cotton waste, the cotton waste is cut and shredded and then converted into biogas and ethanol. Recycled materials offer multiple options for reuse. Raw fibers can be turned into new clothing, accessories and even fillers for car seats. For example, recycled cotton can be obtained from old fabric waste or from recycling cotton processing residues. Regenerated yarn is obtained from fabrics consisting of yarns in different percentages and recycling textile processing wastes. Recycled wool is a natural wool obtained from the combination of different color tones. This undyed wool is completely sustainable and its production contributes to saving water and energy and reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
