While founded in 2016, privately owned Proler Industries has a legacy that extends back nearly a century. We have established deep roots and a wide reputation in the recycling of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal, providing custom solutions to small machine shops, Fortune 500 companies, and everyone in between. Today, we combine our strong foundation with entrepreneurial flexibility as we expand our capabilities in processing and logistics.
1910
Ben Proler enters US through Baltimore Harbour.
1922
Ben Proler begins City Junk and Supply Co. in Houston and later brings his sons: Sam, Izzie, Hymie, and Jackie into the business.
1947
Texas City Disaster occurs
City Junk and Supply Co. supports a monumental community asset clean up and recycling services.
1958
Proler Steel Corporation is created and the Prolers pioneered and patented the first automobile shredding operation in the world known as the Prolerizer, revolutionizing the scrap industry forever.
1965
Proler Steel is the first public metal recycling company and trades on the American Stock Exchange.
1966
Maru Shipping Lines' Billie Fay cargo ship (named after Izzie's wife) becomes the first privately owned vessell owned by a metal recycler to move raw material out of the West Coast.
1968
Proler and Hugo-Neu form a partnership on East Coast and West Coast exporting processed scrap metal to worldwide customers.
1974
Proler Steel Corporation rebrands to Proler International and becomes the first publicly traded scrap company on the NYSE.
1987
Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) names their lifetime achievement award after Izzie Proler following his early passing in 1985.
1992
Proler Southwest is founded by Izzie's sons Bill and Ronny Proler following the sale of Proler International to CFF Recycling. 1997 Proler Southwest merges with Metal Management.
2007
Proler Southwest/Metal Management Houston location processes and ships 120,000 tons in a single month.
2008
Proler Southwest/Metal Management US assets merge with Sims, creating the largest metal recycler in the world.
2016
Proler Industries is born with Bill Proler along with several partners including Preston Proler, setting the stage to become one of the largest privately held metal recyclers in Texas, focusing strictly on industrial scrap.
ISRI awards Bill Proler the Izzie Proler Lifetime Achievement Award, named after his father and presented by Ronny Proler.
