ISVAG

History

ISVAG was founded in 1975 as an intermunicipal cooperation for waste processing. A lot has changed since that time. In the past, all waste was mixed up: glass, paper, textiles, cans, plastic, you name it. That hasn't been the case for a long time. People separate their waste neatly. In Flanders, we are even leaders in recycling. That already saves a lot of residual waste and that is important. We burn the last bit of residual waste in a grate incinerator and we do it so well that the flue gases that are released are only a fraction of the permitted standards. That already makes a difference for the environment. But, we say, prevention is better than cure. The less waste we all produce, the better for everyone.

Mission

SVAG is a results-oriented and energetic public company that processes waste in the most sustainable way possible for the residents of the affiliated cities and municipalities. Sustainable means that we work in the most ecological and the most economical way, recovering as much valuable energy and materials as possible in order to save them for the benefit of future generations.

 Vision

In the transition to a circular economy, the waste chain changes fundamentally. Even more than now, waste streams are becoming valuable raw materials and sources of energy. Products and materials end up in closed and sustainable cycles. The transition to a circular economy has started, but there is still a long way to go. With more than 70% sorting of household waste, Flanders is the best region in Europe, but it still produces a lot of waste. In the current transition period, safe handling of waste therefore remains essential. Our aim is to contribute to making society more sustainable and to close the cycles of materials more effectively. We try to convert waste in the most sustainable way possible into as much clean energy and reusable raw materials as possible. In this pursuit, we want to continue to form alliances with all companies and organizations that, together with us, stand in the gap for innovation in the waste sector. We do all this in an ongoing dialogue with all our stakeholders.
