Mission

SÅM's assignment is to be responsible for sanitation (waste collection, sludge emptying, material treatment and recycling centers) in Gislaved, Gnosjö, Vaggeryd and Värnamo municipalities. We believe in a sustainable future, and that together we can make a difference. We want to increase the level of service to our subscribers, contribute to long-term sustainable development, and improve the conditions for taking our region higher up in the so-called waste ladder, towards more prevention, reuse and recycling. We want to work with you to reduce waste in our region. We want to reuse or recycle the waste that still arises as much as possible in order to contribute to a future that lasts a long time.

Background: On 1 January 2018, the municipal responsibility for the collection and management of household waste was taken over by us at SÅM. SÅM stands for Samverkan Återvinning Miljö, and is a municipal association that was jointly formed by Gislaved, Gnosjö, Vaggeryd and Värnamo municipalities.

Our Organizations

SÅM is a municipal association, which can be described as a municipality in mini format. Our highest decision-making body is our Executive Board, which consists of two members and two deputies appointed by each municipality's municipal council. The members and deputies of the Executive Board are elected for four years from 1 January of the year following the ordinary election to the General Assembly.

For each term of office, the Executive Board elects a chairman and a deputy chairman from among its members with two years' assignments. The assignment as chairman and vice-chairman circulates between the members of the member municipalities. The Executive Board decides on the union's major focus issues (what), while the service organization carries out the assignments (how). The Executive Board also appoints a union director as managing director.

SÅM currently has a total of 30 permanent employees, of which 13 work in the office in Skillingaryd and 17 are active in the recycling centers around the municipalities.
