20 years of history

1994

When everything started

Valorsul was born on September 16, 1994, a public limited company composed of 7 shareholders:
Parque Expo'98, SA,
Empresa Geral de Fomento, SA,
Lisbon City Council,
Electricidade de Portugal, SA,
Amadora City Council
Municipality of Loures
and Municipality of Vila Franca de Xira.

The objective, ambitious at the time, was to find a solution and destination to the complex problem of thousands of tons of urban waste produced in the Greater Lisbon area.

1995

Ministry of Environment

In 1995, Valorsul signed a 25-year concession contract with the Ministry of the Environment, thus becoming the company responsible for the design, construction and management of all facilities necessary for the treatment of urban waste generated in its area. Despite the many debates and meetings, the Valorsul plant divides opinions, but the shareholders are united and firm in the conviction of building an energy recovery plant in S. João da Talha.

1998

Landfill opened

In 1998, the Aterro Sanitário de Mato da Cruz was inaugurated, where the urban waste produced in the area of ​​intervention of Valorsul is sent. This operational unit started to receive the approximately 2,000 t of waste produced daily. Also in this year, programs for monitoring the surroundings of CTRSU began, programs carried out by independent entities and which continue to this day.

The Minister of the Environment, Elisa Ferreira, visits the works of the Energy Recovery Plant, of what would be the first incineration plant in Portugal. This year, training was also given to the first group of employees

Who would operate the installation in a North American power plant.

At Resioeste, the concession contract between the Portuguese state and Resioeste was approved and the contracts for the delivery and reception of waste were signed with the municipalities.

1999

First download

The Energy Recovery Plant enters the testing phase and begins to receive urban waste that was being sent to the Mato da Cruz Sanitary Landfill.

2000

CTRSU opened

The Energy Recovery Plant is officially inaugurated by the Minister of the Environment and Territorial Planning, José Sócrates. Also inaugurated this year is the Slag Treatment and Recovery Facility (ITVE), located in Mato da Cruz. It is also in the year 2000 that the Santa Iria de Azóia Urban Park (Loures) becomes available for the population to enjoy, and the former sanitary landfill gave way to 24 hectares of green and leisure area, in a sealing and recovery project financed by Valorsul. .

2002

Inauguration of the Triage Center

The year 2002 was marked by the inauguration, by the Minister of the Environment and Territorial Planning, of the largest packaging sorting center in the country, which gave an important impetus to recycling in Portugal. It is also in 2002 that Valorsul starts the Ecovalor Program, a co-financing program for municipalities that exclusively supports the school community – environmental education is one of the company's missions, which year after year increases in supply and quality.

2008

Inauguration of ETVO

The Organic Treatment and Recovery Station (ETVO) is officially inaugurated by the Secretary of State for the Environment, Humberto Rosa.

 2010

Valorsul and Resioeste merger

2010 was a year of renewal, the year in which Valorsul and Resioeste merged into a single company. After the approval of the Decree-Law on 15 June, we witnessed the birth of a new Valorsul on 20 July 2010, which has the concession to operate the sorting system, selective collection, recovery and treatment of urban solid waste in the regions of Lisbon and the West, including as original users the municipalities of Alcobaça, Alenquer, Amadora, Arruda dos Vinhos, Azambuja, Bombarral, Cadaval, Caldas da Rainha, Lisbon, Loures, Lourinhã, Nazaré, Óbidos, Odivelas, Peniche, Rio Maior, Sobral de Monte Agraço, Torres Vedras and Vila Franca de Xira.
