JKP 'cistoća i zelenilo' was founded in 1948, and in its current form in 1990, and since then it has been operating as an economic entity established by the City of Subotica to provide public services for maintaining the hygiene of the city and greenery and collecting and disposing of waste. Over time, the care of stray dogs (shelter) and the collection and primary sorting of recyclable waste have been added to these responsibilities.
