Plant for mechanized processing of household waste

The history of the creation of the largest environmental protection enterprise in the North-West - 'Plant for mechanized processing of household waste' begins in 1965. It was then that the decision was made to design an experimental plant for mechanized processing of household waste in Leningrad. The project was developed by the following organizations: Institute 'Giprokommunstroy', Academy of Public Utilities named after Panfilova and the LenNIIkommunmash Institute. The pilot plant MPBO was designed and built by Russian specialists, taking into account foreign experience. The use of unique engineering and environmental solutions 
in design, construction and subsequent continuous improvement of production processes provided the MPBO Experimental Plant with the status of an intensively and evolutionarily developing enterprise of the XXI century.

Waste processing technology is focused on the most beneficial use of municipal solid waste. As a result of the activity of the Enterprise, commercial products are produced: compost, paper and cardboard waste paper; polymer secondary raw materials; scrap of ferrous metals; glass fight; scrap and waste of non-ferrous metals and alloys.

The objective of the Company is to process waste of IV-V hazard classes by means of utilization and neutralization in order to reduce the negative impact on the environment.

The waste processing technology used by the Company is widespread and applied in many countries, including Italy, Germany, Israel, and is optimal for the current morphology of waste.

The technological process of waste processing (hereinafter referred to as neutralization) consists of several stages and includes:

-reception of waste for their further processing, disposal, disposal, disposal;

-waste treatment, i.e. preliminary preparation of waste for further disposal, including sorting, disassembly, cleaning;

-recycling, i.e. the use of waste for the production of goods (products), the performance of work, the provision of services, including the reuse of waste, including the reuse of waste for its intended purpose (recycling), their return to the production cycle after appropriate preparation (regeneration), as well as the extraction of useful components for their reuse (recovery)  and waste disposal.

The key link in the technological scheme of the Enterprise is the composting of pre-prepared organic waste. In the process of composting, accelerated decomposition into simpler substances occurs - carbon dioxide, water (water vapor) and compost, which is used by the Company after maturation. Losing in speed with thermal methods, composting is a much more environmentally friendly method due to the absence of harmful gas emissions. Compared to landfill storage, composting decomposes organic waste much faster and safer.
