AN ALTERNATIVE TO RECYCLING

In 2017, more than 742,333 tonnes of WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment) were recovered and recycled, an increase of 2.8% compared to 2016. 80% of this electronic waste is not tracked or recycled. France is above this average with 21.3 kg / year / inhabitant of WEEE generated, while an EU inhabitant generated on average 16.6 kg of WEEE, against 6.1 kg worldwide.

The volume of electronic equipment going to waste disposal or recycling is now increasing. Electronic waste contains many heavy metals, a source of pollution and having a strong ecological footprint. Since then, the regulation of electronic and electrical waste or WEEE has evolved. So when buying your equipment, a tax called eco-participation must offset the cost of collecting and processing waste. It also requires the taking back of your used devices by the stores which made the sale and with an area of more than 400 m² dedicated to the sale of electrical and electronic equipment. These collections are then sent to specialized recycling channels certified ICPE (installation classified for environmental protection). This recycling will allow the treatment of part of the heavy metals then the recovery and upgrading of the noble metals.

It is always possible to give a second life to your computer and electronic equipment by promoting reuse.

Reuse, when possible, has less impact on the environment than recycling or storage in waste reception centers.
