Pioneering spirit and history

In 1980 Erwin Hunziker founded Hunziker Food Recycling AG with the aim of recycling animal residues ecologically. In 1998 the HABA Feedline was integrated into the company. In the course of the BSE crisis, the feed market was severely restricted, which required alternatives.

The Hunziker brothers carried out the first tests for the production of biogas back in 2002. These were run with sterilized material and confirmed that the fermentation of proteinaceous biomass is possible despite the ammonia problem. Together with the engineering company HOLINGER AG, the process technology was further developed and a functional system concept based on the tests was presented.

After a building permit for a plant for converting biogas into electricity had already been granted in 2002, an alternative had to be sought because the electricity industry had withdrawn from the project. This was found in 2008 with the participation of Erdgas Ostschweiz AG (EGO). With the new project, which was implemented in the years 2009 to 2011, the biogas produced is refined by a treatment plant (amine scrubbing) and fed into the natural gas network of Technischen Betriebe Wil. For its part, EGO sold its stake in Biorender AG to the associated municipal and natural gas works in Eastern Switzerland: Winterthur, Schaffhausen, Wil, Uzwil, Flawil and St.Gallen. Because a technical component, ultrafiltration, could not provide the agreed service,

Out of conviction, around a dozen private investors from the region took over the plant from the bankruptcy estate in 2015 and have since operated it under the new company name BIMA Energie AG. In the meantime, various parts of the plant have been renovated and gas production has increased significantly as a result.

Biorender becomes BIMA

Successful start-up

On November 1, 2015, around a dozen investors took over the biogas plant in Münchwilen TG and operate it under the new company name 'BIMA Energie AG'.

Since then, various parts of the plant have been renovated and biogas production has increased considerably. The longstanding employees have made a significant contribution to this success.

We look forward to continuing on the future path together with our shareholders, partners, suppliers and customers.
