Finn Recycling Oy

Pruukinraitti 8-12 , Urjala, Pirkanmaa, Finland | Scrap Metal Recycling

Finn Recycling Oy is a family company founded in 2013, whose operations consist of scrap metal recycling for the needs of foundries and steel mills, as well as various demolition work. However, the management of the company already has more than a decade of experience in foundries and the supply of the raw materials they need, so the transition to providing foundry sand maintenance services went naturally.

In 2016, a family business located in Urjala acquired new premises in Nuutajärvi from an old glass factory, where a new development project was started for a method for cleaning waste sand. Aalto University was involved in the development project, and as a result, a unique thermal sand resuscitation process was created, which now makes it possible to recycle and reuse waste sand that previously landfilled.

From an old glass factory to a modern recycling plant!

Finn Recycling cleans quartz sand at the Nuutajärvi glass factory. Quartz sand is also the main raw material for glass.

A greener future for the foundry industry

The company's goal is to be at the forefront of the industry's development, setting a model for developing a more environmentally friendly future. We want to be the leading producer of recycled solutions and materials in sand-based products also outside Finland.

The idea of recovering and reusing sand arose when foundries transported binder-containing sand used in casting molds to landfill waste. Steel foundries also had to source new sand from Europe because there is no closer supply of qualitatively suitable sand quality. When working with foundries, Finn Recycling's management also became very familiar with the problem of waste sand and its final disposal for foundries.

The sand recovery project was implemented with Aalto University, but the customer base was also actively involved in its development work. The reuse of sand, “thermal resuscitation,” was very well received from the beginning. Recovery involves cleaning up waste sand, after which it can be reused in foundries or power plants.

Finn Recycling Oy has been involved in the following environmental projects, for example:

Rotational casting (in cooperation with Business Finland)

Green Foundry (in collaboration with EU Life)

Diversification of sand printing (in cooperation with Aalto University)

Bauxite chromite substitute (in collaboration with Aalto University + other actors)

Update of the BAT document for foundries (in cooperation with the European Commission)

The company's core values include customer orientation , growth and innovation .

Customer orientation means that the customer is always at the center of the service and our goal is to solve the customer's challenges and problems, thus building mutually beneficial cooperation.

Growth is a goal that the company consciously and actively pursues. We want to improve the well-being of the sector on an ever-increasing scale. The starting point for action, then, is that we will not stay where we are or be content with the current level.

Innovativeness is open-mindedness, questioning and finding different, new solutions. We have a deep understanding of what our customers need and want. This enables us to develop new, better technical solutions.
