Blue Paper

The story begins in 1936, when the Swiss group Thiel built a pulp mill producing sulphite market pulp. After several changes of owner, the mill site called “Cellulose de Strasbourg” was purchased in 1988 by the Finnish group UPM (United Paper Mills) and was renamed “ Stracel”. UPM built a paper mill to produce newsprint paper. The new machine went into production in 1990. In 1999, the pulp mill was finally closed and the assets were sold and dismantled. The newsprint paper machine was converted in year 2000 for the production of light weight coated magazine paper (LWC). In 2011, UPM announced its decision to stop magazine paper production in Strasbourg and to look for investors to convert the mill. The joint-venture BLUE PAPER SAS was born.

Blue Paper’s Strasbourg paper mill produces paper used for the production of corrugated board. Our products are made solely of 100 % recovered paper in an environmentally friendly process. The 160 Blue Paper employees can produce over 440,000 tons of corrugating base paper per year. Grades include fluting, testliner and multi-use paper in substances between 70 and 135 g/m2. Our state-of-the-art technologies guarantee our customers excellent quality.
