Absolute Environmental Waste Management Inc.
260, 2833 Broadmoor Blvd, Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada | Waste Management
Site History
Celanese Edmonton Plant was once a vibrant industrial park employing thousands of local people but closed its main doors in 2003 and the methanol plant in 2007. The site was left abandoned and was classified as a contaminated underutilized commercial or industrial property, otherwise known as a Brownfield.
As the new owners, Eco Industrial Business Park Inc. is redeveloping the site to an ecologically managed environmentally sustainable mixed-use industrial park. Various uses for the park include oil and gas related processes, petrochemical manufacturing and transloading facilities (storage, unloading and loading of products onto trucks, trains, for transportation) and much more. The fully operational, world scale Methanol Plant was recently sold to an off shore company where it will be reconstructed and put into commission within the next few years.
Location
Situated in the geographic centre of both Alberta and Western Canada, Edmonton spans 700 square kilometers and is strategically located between the highly productive agricultural land of central Alberta and the resource rich north. Greater Edmonton is a metropolitan center with a population exceeding 1 million and encompassing 36 municipalities. It is the sixth largest metropolitan centre in the country averaging a 10% growth rate (Stats Canada).
Edmonton is home to a thriving business community, encompassing industry, government, and abundant service sectors. As Alberta’s capital city, it is the location of the provincial government and is a major hub in the transportation and oil and gas industry of Western Canada.
Features
What sets Eco Industrial Business Park apart from the competition is the existing self-sustaining infrastructures that include:
• Immediate access to planned transportation development of the Anthony Henday highway expansion
• Immediate access to the Yellowhead Highway
• Close proximity to several major crude oil and natural gas pipelines
• Water diversion rights
• On-site power generation
• One class 1A licensed and AER approved deep injection wells for disposal of oilfield and industrial waste fluids
Water
The site can draw water from the North Saskatchewan River under water diversion licensed form Alberta Environment. The licenses provide for annual diversion of 5.5 million cubic meters of water at a rate of 0.97 cubic meters per second. The water diversion system includes a water intake station and a water treatment plant.
